I placed an order for a Savage Mark II FV-SR from WholesaleSports.com
They had them in stock in their Calgary store.
w:h:
What are the processing times for a firearms purchase? Delays I can expect?
I called them and they said typically 10-12 days to my door. So whats the use of paying for Overnight Priority Shipping?

I've been trying to decide this myself for the past 5 months.
I want a bolt-action as my first. I've narrowed it down to these four:

Marlin XT-22R (41" OAL)
Marlin XT-22VR (heavy barrel, I can't find it anywhere in Ontario)
Savage Mark II FV-SR (35" OAL)
Stevens 300F (30" OAL???)

I really like the Short Stevens if it is indeed that short but an adjustable trigger would be nice. :)

Any insight?

EDIT: Alright. Mark II FV-SR it is. So where can I get one? I'm in the GTA Ontario.
EDIT2: Someone please help me find this gun for less than $350+tax! :ang

Savage, you won't be dissappointed. I'm not sure which model it is you have listed (typing from the Blackberry), but I would suggest you look at the laminate or wood stock models, they are much nicer.

Savage rifles will shoot with guns priced 2,3 or 4 times the price. They are bit lacking in the fit and finish, but that is reflected in the price point. I don't know how accurate the shortys are.

This is an unofficial savage/ruger forum (or at least so it would seem sometimes), so don't let the disproportionate number of people saying savage sway you. Don't get me wrong, I love savage rifles also... Infact it's probably what I'd recommend because...
The savage and marlins you've narrowed down to are likely almost exactly equal in so far as accuracy, reliability, durability etc... Probably exactly equal. The deciding factor for me? Would be that savage .22's are made in Ontario, whereas marlin .22's are now made in the masterfactory for a huge corporation that owns and builds numerous types of firearms (Remington, marlin, h&r etc...) and the quality control and care of workmanship has suffered, and... Frankly I don't support monster corporations. If you were buying a used firearm, I would say buy a marlin, because I actually prefer them over savage, only very slightly.

Ive got an FV-SR and just love it. Picked it up from Corlane's for $305 after taxes and shot some nice 2" groups @ 100yds with CCI Blazer and the barrel touching the stock. Grab a Tac Pro cheek riser, cause that EGW base sits really high. The Oversize bolt handle is a nice touch too.

You know...they say "opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one" :) But hey, that's what forums are for~discussion. Since your thread is not about the Ruger 10/22, I'll throw my hat in the ring. :D

Marlin XTs~I've never shot one, but I almost bought one. Once I held it, I actually thought it seemed like a cheap copy of the entry-level Savages...which are relatively cheap themselves. Haven't heard anything really negative about them, I just went with a 93FV instead. Love the accutrigger.

Stevens 300~kinda' cool, but the compact length isn't worth losing the accutrigger for. Again, my opinion.

Savage Mark II FV SR~I don't mind those cheesy stocks, but most people have a hate-on for them. I do think it's unfortunate that they took the TR-style metal, threw a 1-pc....tactical scope base on it (nice) shortened the barrel (that's cool) then threw it in their crappiest stock. Having said all that, I may still get one. :) I only have 5 .22s. I think the tactical-looking goodies on this rifle make it unique enough to make it a possible future purchase for me, but I think if it were my first...I'd probably get a Mark II BV instead.

So yeah...my vote is "Savage". :)

Mark II FV-SR it is. So where can I get one? I'm in the GTA Ontario. Does it come with the picatinny rails and extended bolt like in the pic? Hope so.
Will be getting a Boyds Evo royal purple stock to match when I get the extra $$$.

I'll be picking up a marlin sometime early next year since I, like everyone else, want to own as many .22 rifles as humanly possible.
After the marlin, I want an old-school .22 pump-action. :D

Nice... I like the way you think! And yes, the savage comes as you see it with the rail and oversize bolt handle etc...
I'd try wholesale sports or cabelas online store. Just buy it online if you have a credit card. It's much easier and allows you to shop across the country.

Yup, it comes with the rail and O/S bolt handle, its hard to see in the pic but the barrel is also fluted and threaded 1/2"x28 for standard AR-15 muzzle devices. Mine now wears a Dlask re-worked LeVang comp and a Tac Pro cheek riser. You wont be dissapointed
