First .22 - Savage Mark II TR or?

Hi all,
Looking for some opinions I want to get into long range shooting and want something decent to start out with and saw the Mark II TR and really liked it.
I havent handled it so I wondered what build quality is like with savage or if anyone would recommend something different maybe the Savage Mark II F or?
I like the adjustable trigger and have read you can get this on the CZ as well
I also would consider something that shoots the .17hmr but im not sure if getting ammo for it is going to be difficult...
If I had the cash I get a SAKO Quad but not willing to spend that much at this point lol
Any help is appreciated!!
Ps... Since youre here already whats some good glass to go with it?? :D

I bought one of the Savage MkII FVXP gun packages which came with a Bushnell 3-9x scope. I am completely happy with the quality ans accuracy. I generally only shoot at 100m but once and a while out to 200m. I have seen upgraded the scope. If you want the stock that is on the TR, buy the TR. I thought I would be able to change the stock to the tacticool stock, but Boyd's won't ship to Canada and neither will SSS. I wish I got the TR because that's the style of stock I wanted in the first place, but they weren't available at the time. The .17hmr will give better performance at longer range if you don't mind paying the higher price in ammo. Availability doesn't seen to be an issue, at least out west. The only issue I have had with my MkII is that the ten round mags fail to load the last round. Now that I have been using the awhile they are working better.
 
I have the bare bones low end Mark II F and man is it accurate. It's easily the most accurate .22 rifle i've shot. I mostly just plink with it, so if you're looking into distance shooting you might want a heavy barrel, target trigger, etc. I would stay away from the package guns as the scopes tend to be lower end 3-9's, which don't have a good reputation and you will probably replace anyways. Same as the stock, if you plan to replace it anyway, you might as well get what you want up front, but you can't go wrong with the accuracy of the savages
 
The Savage MK II series is a excellent gun as is the 93 series if you want to go to .17HMR. CZ is going to be a bit better but at a premium cost.

.17HMR & .22LR are quite a bit different so consider that when choosing. .17HMR is faster, has a flatter trajectory and will reach out to 300 yds.

As for .17HMR ammo availability, that's no problem here in Winnipeg. Cost between .22LR and .17HMR is a different story though. You can't beat the economics of .22LR for plinking.

I have a Savage Mk2 TR in 22lr and just love it.
Ammo wise, standard velocity works best.
Glass wise, i have a burris fullfield II 3*9*40 ballistic plex and I have fun plinking golf balls @ 100yds...
 
As for glass to go with that gun, try a Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 AO or a Simmons .22 MAG 3-9x32 AO. Both are decent low cost scopes. But in either case get some decent rings to mount it with. I don't like the junky rings that often come with many rimfire scopes.
 
The savage mark II FV-SR is a pretty decent t rifle for a low price ( got mine at a retail store for $220). It's shorter than most, but seems balanced and feels good at the short length. It come with a top rail, and threaded fluted barrel. Admittedly I haven't been out to shoot it, cold, snowy, and I need somewhere to shoot. The gun club only allows non members on weekends, I work Sundays. Anyways check it out. You aren't too far from me, if you find a time and place to shoot let me know, you can give it a shot.

EDIT: oh yeah, I also have a savage 93R17 Synthetic stock, bull barrel, stainless steel .17 HMR to try out.
 
If I was gonna long range my 22 I would get that mueller APV scope indeed. seems folks doing 500 yards with a 22lr love their czs but I hear the savages are good guns. My cz 452 is awesome- the last one I had featured a pretty crummy trigger. This one breaks like a glass rod at less that 3lbs.

Either way the cheap $10 yo dave trigger spring will fix it up
 
Last month, I purchased the Savage BTVS Mark II.
This is without any doubt the nicest and best shooting 22lr I could ever have imagined.
It shoots one hole groups a 50m with the cheap Blazer 22 ammo.
I paid $396 everything included. I consider this as one of the best deals in 2012.

I am not sure what you mean by long range shooting, it's a 22lr after all, so 50m will do.

I walked out of Cabellas last week with my 93R17BVSS c/w 2 boxes of Hornady ammo, all taxes paid (+12%) for $400 total. Typically I was under the impression that .17HMR guns were a little more than .22LR simply based on volume of sales, but apparently not. The ammo was $15.99 a box plus taxes.

I consider this reasonable especially since the MSRP is $410.

Nonrandomhero thats a very nice gesture as I was looking at the 93R17 TRR-SR, having never shot the .17 I may take you up on it :)
 
Anyone else that has replied just wanted to say thanks so far for any opinions given as Im kinda green and fall in love easy with a tactical stock :D
