First .22LR pistol - Norc, Ruger, other?

Go with what feels best in your hand and fits your budget.

Started with a P22. Great to learn with, fun to shoot if you get one with all the bugs worked out.

I've now got a Buckmark Target 5.5 that I have had no problems with. It's accurate and fun to shoot.

If you're looking for something more accurate, try the S&W M41. Mine's a vintage model and with std vel ammo is very accurate.
 
Everybody already said! I call my 2245 MK III the best cute ugly gun. It is ass looking but has its own style and shoot pretty good. The best three hundred dollars that I have spent.

I started with a revolver actually, Ruger Single Six with interchangable cylinders (.22LR/.22mag). Real nice option and I love the feel and look of it. Isn't a semi pistol, but it's lots of fun!
 
There seems to be major consensus on the Ruger pistols.

How do people feel about the Mk I and Mk II pistols compared to the new ones? Has the quality slid at all over time like with many other firearms? If so, is it enough that its worth holding out to find one?

E.g., There's a smart-looking Mk I on the EE right now.

Ruger rimfire pistol been there for many years. I was very anti to their look until the Mark III 2245 4.5" slub barrel come along. No soon I saw a member post a pic here and I went get one. You can say Ruger Put in the most non-sense and stupid design together but the gun just work fine.

I find those darn slip pins keep slipping out and then the guts do not want to move freely out through the back of the grip.

Aiwa, are you talking about the pins in the main spring housing or the bolt?
My pins are not loose maybe you should try and de-grease the pins and lock them with loc-tite.
 
I believe that my problems primarily center around the bolt stop pivot pin. (part A02602 for those who are concerned with such things.)

The last two times I've taken it apart, the damn pin moved out of center and ended up binding within the grip. The last time this happened it took a gunsmith to rectify the problem. I gave him a gun with a problem and he returned it fixed. So, I've never actually seen the part when it causes the problem, and have never been in a position to apply a solution.
 
I'm becoming quite sold on the Buckmark after trying one out in the store. I shot a Ruger Mk III on the weekend and found the magazine release button to be out of reach.

I'd still like to shoot a Buckmark. Any cons to these pistols? I guess I'll probably use it with the Bullseye shoots in mind, since they are the most active at my range.
 
I prefer the MKI and MKII Rugers to the recent incarnation. Loaded chamber indicator is pointless as is the mag disconnect. Hold out for one of those.
 
I'm quite happy with my Mk.1 bull barrel, the only complaint I have is the bolt not staying open on an empty mag. There's a thread over on the Ruger forum about a fix you can make for the mag that'll keep it open, if you're into some tinkering, but it got mixed reviews.
You get used to it, and I don't have any issues field stripping or re-assembling. The trigger is good right out of the box. They're still reasonably priced. Works for me :)

Buckmarks are pretty nice...if you handled one and like it get it. .22's don't recoil much at all so you don't have to worry about how it will handle under recoil. And as for accuracy I don't think Rugers are any better.

Possibly quite true.... Shot a friends older Browning .22 semi this week. Doesn't have a name on it but I thought maybe it was a 'Challenger' model or the like. He didn't know the model name either.... Had about a 5 1/2" barrel on it but not a 'bull' like on my Ruger MkII. I shot just as well with both pistols at 25 meters. And close up, both are deadly accurate.
