Just thought I'd let you's know that my 12 yr old son shot his first 25 at 27yrds today. He's been shooting trap for just over a year now and back in June he shot his first 25 at 16yrds (3 days after getting his new Beretta) then in August his first 25 from his handicap of 21yrds. Well this afternoon he jumped on a squad with a couple of "AA" class 27yrd shooters just so there wasn't only the 2 of them shooting. He ended up shooting a 25  . Thats was with his 28" barreled full choked Beretta 391 RL with 1 oz loads of #8's. He shot a 23 from there last week and told everyone it wouldn't be long be he got a 25 from back there. We all told him that is was good to have goals but setting them too high isn't always a good thing. Guess he showed us eh....

Wow!!!!!!!!! That is awesome. He will be kicking some serious butt when he gets into competitive shooting.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations. I know a lot of trap shooters who are still struggling to break 25 at 27. That's a lot of talent. Well done!

Of course I trust you shot his hat.

Thanks guys he was pretty happy about it. He does shoot competively now. He shot his first registered shoot 2 days after he got his first 12ga (a Browning B-80) just over a year ago. He loves shooting back there with the "big dawgs". He says it doesnt matter how big you are when your standing back there it's how tight your head is screwed on that counts.
Sam...I believe the shells he shot it with were loaded in some STS low recoil hulls he picked up behind you at HGC in August. He was the first little guy that came to see you about the GunClub shells you donated to the kids. (<-----good job by the way 8) )
Claybuster... no I didn't shoot his hat. It wasn't his first ever 25 and if I did I think he'd have shot me. It's his "special" lucky camo Beretta hat he bought at our provincials this year.

Yes I do remember meeting you and your son at the Ontarios. I guess I will have company on the 27 yard line and it would be an honour to shoot with your son.

I will be more active on the trap circuit next year, I ma now closing the store on Sundays so that I can practice to keep in shape so your son does make me look bad when he kicks my butt.

I will probably be donating ammunition for all the juniors nad sub-juniors again next year at the Ontarios and will see about doing it for the full 2 day shoot.

Again give him my best and let him know that I will be practicing to try to keep up with him.

Best regards,
Sam

I guess he did, eh?

Congrats to your son.

I'm trying to get mine into clay shooting. I wouldn't mind if it worked out as nice as it did with yours

Congratulations, indeed ! Keep him shooting ... another Leary or Shaw in the making !

By all means, keep him shooting with the big dawgs ... and it certainly seems his head is already screwed on straight ! ( Watch for the scores to drop a bit when he discovers GIRLS, however ! ) All kidding aside, at 12 he has already accomplished what a lot of seasoned shooters have trouble with ... the focus to run them ... at 16 or 27 !!! The first 100 shouldn't be too far down the road. Hope you can stand the ammo bill Dad !

Nice. I still haven't hit my first 25, but I just beat the big dawgs from the back fence at the meat shoot last weekend with the Browning Citori Trap I just picked up (i love it, it fits me like a glove), so the way I seem to shoot with this thing, I should see my first 25 soon. :)

Yes he shoot registered handicap. Took second at our Provincials this year His yardage right now is 21 1/2yrds. He's hoping to make it to 23yrds for next season. Since he's only 12 now he figures he should be able to make it to 27 yrds by the time he's 16 (junior). He says "ya gotta have goals our your just shooting for nothing"

Yes I broke my first 25 with my new Browning Citori Trap. Great gun and fits me like a glove as well. It will come soon.
