First 308 reloading setup

That'll do nicely. However, E-Bay financially supports the people who don't think you should be allowed to own any firearm. You'll be able to find one in a Canadian gun shop.

I would not get that press if your looking for accuracy... if your looking to make bulk 308 and dont care much about accuracy then its ok.

Anniversary kit is the way to go to get started.

Have you considered.......

one of those RCBS Rockchucker kits?
Bit more money, but should last you a lifetime.
If I did it over again, this would be the way I would go.
Seems WSS has a sale on or one will be happening soon.
May be worth checking out.
Good luck.

I am trying to understand why exactly would it be less accurate then the Anniversary kit? My current debate is between this setup and the Anniversary kit (if i bought new). Ive been browsing the reloading equipment forums and reloading websites, such as reloaders.ca

But why is a progressive less accurate then a regular setup, if you still take the time to properly weigh the powder that goes into each loads?

Thanks

Alex

The lee loadmaster is an auto progressive meaning that you only put the brass and bullet in the rest is done by the machine.

If the only operations your are doing is adding the brass to the machine and placing a bullet on the brass to be seated you have lost a lot of the processes that make the ammunition accurate.

The best way I can put it for you to understand it is the loadmaster will produce factory spec ammo the same kind of ammo you can but from Winchester Remington etc.

The single stage press or anniversary kit will produce match grade ammo. The single stage press your involved in every aspect of the creation of that round.
you sized and deprime
you seat the primer
you weigh and the powder
you drop the powder
you seat the bullet
In between these operations you take as much time to do prep on the cases or whatever your secretes are to making accurate ammo.

Like said the lee loadmaster will chuck out 500 rounds an hour. I don’t know about you but my range trips I normally fire under 100 .308's Put it this way... I have a Hornady lock and load AP one of the best press for the price around, it makes all my pistol ammo and .233 rifle for my AR... its more then sufficient for shooting on the indoor range where all of these firearms are to be used..

But my .223 bolt action rifle & .308 bolt action rifle are reloaded with my lee breach lock kit. I pay much greater attention to reloading these as I shoot them 600 to 800 yards. They must be precise and I don’t trust the Hornady auto progressive to do that even though it can load both of these rounds.

I use Breach lock kit and the Chargemaster 1500 for my precision stuff.

There is no point in using my lock and load AP and crank out 800 rounds an hour if they dont shoot 1MOA or less at 600 yards

Hope this helps more about understanding what I mean about the loadmaster being less accurate the a single stage press.

These aren’t my videos I would just use them to see how the operation of the two different kits work and less about what the guys are saying about them.

Either way the final choice is yours I'll help you get what ever you need.

What are you plans for your .308... telling me more about your rifle, what your plans are for reloading ie, saving money, accuracy, hobby, Budget, avalible space to reload etc. Your range and distances you will be shooting will help me recomend what you should get.

Ps. I would not use Ebay or (FRAUD ALERT) as they are both companies with a strong anti gun stance... I was banned from (FRAUD ALERT) for using it to accept money from my online store because they do not allow transactions for reloading projectiles.

I agreee fully with msg.drew here.

Sure this set-up might be okay, IF your chosen discipline is service rifle only.
(closer ranges)

The further distances you shoot, the more one wants, truly top quality, match grade ammunition.
More often than not, long distance, precision rifle shooters use single stage reloading to carefully control every aspect of handloading technique.

I think I can safely say, it's a rare rifle shooter indeed who places well at an 800 and 900 meter match, or further, (or 200 meter benchrest) using handloads from a progressive press.

My current setup is a Win Model 70, stealth 2, 26 inch heavy barrel. And I will be buying a falcon menace 5-25x50 in the very near future, as my current scope is out dated.

The local range I will be going is 100-200 meters. I definatly look forward to going out to bigger ranges, but at the momment, I want to get used to my rifle and improve my shooting before shooting further. Maybe in a year or two.

Well that rifle and those distances any kit would work fine for your applications, however I would still recomend getting the anniversary or breach lock kit if your just starting out... they are good value for money and if you dont like reloading you have not spent a fortune on the kit.

You might want to get a tumbler, knetic hammer, digital scale too.

Why shoot 100 and 200 yards when Ottawa has a 900m range? Google National Capital Region Rifle Association. I believe they run a new shooter program during the spring.

"Routinely, the TR Section shoots on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 PM to last light and on Sundays from 8:30 AM to approximately noon."

Wednesdays would be ok for me to shoot, but I work night shifts on weekends. Plus the local range is closer and I can go any day at any time (day light of course). But yes, definatly, when I get better and will want to tackle 300-900m, it will definatly be worth it. But for once a week, I think my local range might be better for the time. But I could also shoot thursdays in the service rifle section. My cost since im under 25 would be only 49$, which is pretty awsome.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Merlin

What sunray has pointed out here is important. Shooters are politically under the gun if you'll pardon the pun. Sooner or later you'll be $upporting a $hooters advocacy/lobby group like CSSA, NFA, even NRA largely because of the efforts of organizations supported by the likes of E-bay. This is worthwhile, but does cost.

I buy via E-bay when the bargains are BIG or the item is scarce. Otherwise, its best to not to support them with your $$ now just to offset their anti-gun efforts with $$$$$ later.

Deal with msg.Drew. He's helping you here with good honest advice. He also offers great prices, and the satisfaction of knowing your own money isn't being used against you ,,, and me :D.

Get the LEE Anniversary kit first, you have to learn to walk before you can run.
There's a lot happening with the Loadmaster with each pull of the handle, and it could lead to a little frustration.
Don't ask how I know about that one.
With the Anniversary kit you'll learn the move's and method's and when it's time to move on you can sell it on the EE.
As for accuracy? being consistant is more important.
I've used the LEE Challenger press with LEE dies and LEE case prep tool's to load .223 for my sporter Brno and can hit dime's at 100m using IVI brass ad 55gr. HP's.
