First 9MM pistol......am I missing anything?

I don't want this to sound like the 'I'm looking to buy my first shotgun and am looking for advice' :rolleyes: post - we have all answered these several dozen times before. I am looking for a 9mm because it is inexpensive to shoot, one can shoot it all day w/o fatigue, and for new shooters I bring out it will not scare the crap out of them like a .45ACP - which as an FYI will likely be my second pistol (Springfield 1911)

I am asking for some suggestions and opinions on anything I may have overlooked for my first 9mm pistol - I have looked (and shot the following)

- Beretta 92F (Stainless beauty from a fellow CGN'er....so you opinion means squat)
- Glock 17
- Browning Hi Power - my first love but some a-hole will not part with it!
- Sig 226

An I missing anything here. So far they all seem to be within the same price range, and other then personal reference all seem like high quality pistols.

I own two and love all four. Go with what is comfortable in your hand You have shot all four and should be happy with them if they are still on your list.
If you want a good supply of accessories (holsters, sights, magazines and trigger parts) go with the GLOCK. You can get way more accessories and at half the price.
The GLOCK is also more maintenance friendly in that it is increadably easy to strip for cleaning. The others you dont want to strip yourself.

Its a hard decision isn't it?

You should also consider the CZ line..be it a 75/85 or SP0-1...
These, plus the ones you have listed are all competent and have much to
recommend them as your first 9MM.
Just like the Ford/Chevy/Dodge bulls**t pickup truck 'discussion' about which one of these is 'best', buy or borrow any of the above, move on the the next on the list and learn to love each of them for their unique qualities!

I've decided that I'll be getting a Glock 17 for myself, but given your other three choices, I think you may not be a Glock man at heart. All three of your other choices are for a steel framed SA/DA pistol (the Hi power, your first love, being only SA) with manual safeties. It doesn't sound like you'd like the weightlessnes, snappier recoil, or the long trigger pull on the Glock so what made you put one on your list?

Personally I would recommend (for you):
- Beretta 92F (easy trigger upgrade and damn nice looking)
- Browning Hi Power (since you already love 'em, but me - not so much)
- Sig 226 (good quality firearm & decent resale value)
- Gunner tuned NP-29 (cheap, fun, attractive)
- Glock 17 (quality, easy maintenance, decent resale value)
 
well i'll put my two cents in for what it's worth,i own or have fired 3 of the 4 pistols you mentioned.The beretta is a nice pistol but i find it hard to shoot unless you have big hands,the trigger reach for double action is just not comfortable and with the exposed barrel if your not paying attention it can get hot,something to consider if you bring out non gun savvy people.The glock 17 is a great pistol well balanced accurate and the polymer frame absorbs some of the recoil very shooter freindly,the only drawback is no lead reloads and that only applies if you are a reloader.Now we come to my favorite the browning hipower fits the hand like a second skin it just feels perfect in the hand (my hand anyway) well balanced and accurate the only drawback is hammer bite,probably not a good pistol for beginners.They would always remember the hammer bite instead of the fun they had shooting.Even though it bites me now and again it's still my alltime favorite (a good 1911 is a close second).All i can say about the sig is everything i ever read about them has been positive i don't think i ever read of anybody saying anything bad about them.I hope this helps take care.

I would go with first gun you have on the list there… ;)

If you want to make your choice more complicated take a good look Steyr M9-A1

Very similar to the CZ's would be the Baby Eagle. Trigger is excellent right out of the box and it is extremely accurate.
 
Beretta, Glock, HK, Sig. Presented in alphabetical order.

With any of these, you absolutely cannot go wrong.

Steyr (M9-A1) and Smith and Wesson (M&P) seem to be ready to move to that list, though I don't think they've been out long enough to say.

CZ is definitely *not* a "cannot go wrong" product.

John, if you feel strongly about this one - I'd suggest you pursue it. You shouldn't have much trouble find ing a nice one in the $500-$600 range. It was also going to be my first personal pick from your list, so I understand. :)

Personally I much prefer the XD over any glock, the shape is just better in my hands and I like the trigger better. My HP is one of my favorites as well, if you like it, you may find the beretta a touch on the large side. I haven't fired the sigs so no opinon other than that they are nicely made firearms. You won't go wrong with any of them, find the one you like best, thats the best gun for you!

The part you left out is how well you shoot the Beretta. I would say hitting apples at 60m should make it number 1 on your list.
Just for the record I am not trying to sell him my Beretta, we are good friends and he is trying to talk me into it. My opinion is based on how well he shot the gun and how well it fit him.

Hey, if you shoot the berretta that well, better buy it up fast. Dosen't really matter what you buy, once the addictions bites you'll slowly get them all anyways :runaway:
