First African Hunt

I know nothing about going on these big hunts but what are the trophy fees? Im assuming it is like our Tags? If you shoot it do you have to bring it back ?
I would love to go on one of these big hunts but Im thinking it might be a long ways on my list..

Much varies by the country but for the most part trophy fees are a pay as you go affair. What you can shoot can depend on where you go, how long you stay, quotas as well as how much money you have. Trophy fees vary greatly by the country, what is common there and what the market will stand. Dayrates are all over the place as well. I think the key is to decide what you want the most, go to the best areas for that species and see what you can pick up at the same time for decent rates. Try to find a package that comes close to what you want. Take some extra money because sure as hell a record book something or other will appear while you're looking for something else.
I've read about people who take only pictures for trophies, but that is rare. Skull mounts can reduce the taxidermy bill to a fraction.
 
Amazing, simply amazing... This has and is still one of my life long goals. I'm only 24 so i still have a little time left to save up. Thanks for sharing the pics and your experiences. If you don't mind me asking what do you estimate the trip to cost minus the taxidermy? Thanks

Minus taxidermy and shipping I'm into the mid twenties in Canadian bucks including tips, souvineers SP? and incidentals. Call it another 10 more or less for taxidermy and freight. This includes taking my wife, so double airfare and observer rates applied there. The exchange rate is better now with a 90 cent dollar. A hunt for 4 or five animals might be pulled off for $10,000 C if you picked your animals with price in mind, plus have a lot more will-power than I have. The two guys that are coming with me for plains game in July are hoping to get in and out for 10, all in. We'll see about that.:D Might happen.;)
