First African Hunt

Ultramag,
I did some checking and the Bushbuck will make both books, the Waterbuck will make RW, and the Gemsbuck missed by an inch. The Impalas will be close but I don't remember the numbers anymore. I won't be listing anything, anyway.
Dogleg

Good for you DL! There is far too much emphasis put on trophy quality and not enough put on the experience! While on my trip I heard about a fellow who had a fantastic hunt, got a great buffalo, but went away disheartened because it only scored 80 some points and he wanted 100 for the book! Folks, there are no bad trophies - providing you do not shoot an immature animal, and the look and character of the trophy is alot more important than inches.

how was the weather and scenes?

The Big Mike,
The weather reminded me of Saskatchewan in September. Highs were around 20 C, mornings were chilly. There was frost on the truck windows one morning, the only morning the PHs didn't wear shorts. I'm still puzzled by the shorts- winter jacket- Balaclava combo, but don't understand women wearing skirts in the winter either.;) It is one of their coldest winters in years though.
Plenty of the scenary is like home too, albiet with the wrong type of trees and wildlife. The soil is red and sandy for the most part.Everything has thorns.

What rifles were your PH's carrying?

What made you go with the CZ? A nice choice for a CRF with express sights!

Geologist,
In the case of my PH, none. He owns rifles from 243 to 458 Lott, but just carried a monopod. I actually bought the CZ while looking for a Model 70, but have never regretted the choice. It looked like it wanted to jump off the shelf and go a safari all by itself, and I couldn't resist. I'll confess to a weakness for CRF rifles in general!;) How's yours working out for you?

Kell2784,
Theres still some rifling left, as much as I tried to wear it out.

Martinbns,
There were a few flakes in Joburg, but didn't amount to much more than a novelty. The safari operater's wife described it as "more like sleet" There was frost on the truck windows one morning, unusual in itself.

I love my 602 carbine. I am in the Russian arctic and it sure would be comforting to have with me. We saw a griz again today, it was browsing in sight of one of our bulldozers that was busy building a drill pad. So much for wild game being disturbed by man!

Blindside,
The Bushbuck, Waterbuck, female Gemsbuck, Kudu and black faced Impala will be shoulder mounts. The other Impala, Wildebeeste, male Gemsbuck are to be European Skull mounts and flat rugs. The Zebra of course will be a flat rug. The Jackal got fed to the crocodiles, but I did buy a rug on the way home to replace it. The 375 wasn't very kind.

Geologist,
Your Brno/ CZ .375 would be a comfort around bears alright, as well as being a great hunting rifle in it's own right. Much more comforting than the calculator and pepper-spray that I have. The "powers that be" feel that my hunting rifles are "Dangerous" I agree,(If you're a bear) that's why I want them close by. They just don't get it.;)
