First and last dealing with Marstar!

I've been watching this thread closely. I've never dealt with Marstar though they do look to have some really nice deals going on some things. What I do know is the OP had some valid points, some other posters had valid points as well concerning patience. When something goes wrong in a deal and it goes south the best thing to do is dust yourself off and start over. Shake hands. Seeing this thread at the top of the chain every day makes me feel bad for both parties, and being as prominent as it is, well, kind of embarrassed that this is the biggest news item going around in Canada with regards to firearm enthusiasts. Publicly. I do believe we were all taught to be respectful, kind, honest and forgiving and patient. That we should represent firearm owners well, because in this country, regardless of what we personally believe, our ownership is a privilege, and we should represent ourselves with dignity and grace, maturity and restraint. Many of the posts don't indicate that this behavior is rampant in this community.

Marstar, I will not let this thread stop me from doing business with you should something I just can't refuse come available. OP, I would be happy to break shells with you on the range and test our marksmanship on hapless boards and paper. Lets remember that to be human is to make mistakes. What should set us apart from the common man in our society is the ability to adapt, learn and overcome. That we should be united and not in disarray. That we should be brothers (and sisters) in arms, for our arms, and show society it's misconceptions and false information are simply wrong.

Stay safe!

You accuse me of being bi-polar or being two different people? Grow up.

A business can be honest and still be a**holes. That's the point I'm getting to, I'm not at all suggesting that Marstar will screw you over, just that it might not be an enjoyable experience.

What I could not understand is the comment that they were a "model of communication" and yet "need to improve customer interaction": is not communication a form of customer service? So you are basically saying they are a model of communicating that they don't give good customer service? That would make sense. It is simply that not many people will give a compliment to someone after an insult. It would be like saying Wendy Caulkier is inept at understanding reality but adept at manipulating reality: it forms this instantaneous mindset of "oxymoron" to say that one can manipulate what they cannot understand. This does not make it so, nor impossible: just factually uncommon. It is just not normal anymore for someone to appreciate, as you do, something that is complained about. Plain and simple.

My comment stands: you are unique in your opinion regardless of what or how you (or either of you) come to that conclusion. Good or bad is up to those that know you better.

IF you find out PLEASE let me know ASAP....
John

Maybe the fans are not so much of Marstar, but that you are willing to not just delete a thread like this but make an attempt to converse within it: good or bad, some others would not make such an attempt and simply lock the thread. It seems you are willing to let opinions be told, and I salute you for the freedom of expression (even if mine is childish, right NavyCuda).

I just like being honest and it would be unfair for me to misrepresent my experience. Did I get what I paid for? Yes. Did someone always communicate with me? Yes. Did I enjoy spending money with Marstar? No.

I don't understand your last jibe at me, perhaps you can make it clearer.

I clarified in that post: it was a jibe that you told me to grow up. I did suddenly thinb of the error after submitting, I admit.

I respect that. Therefor, after your explanation and our polite discussion (but only after) I change my opinion: you are neither bipolar or two people, but a rare form of persona who can actually find the good in the bad and comment on both. It is not a common thing: debates and conversations of this nature tend to be, as said already, either a "haters" or "fanboys" divide.

I can openly say to the same questions in my three dealings with Marstar:
Did I get what I paid for? Yes on two (I backed out of the M-14s pre-order when it went over 18 months or so)
Did someone always communicate with me? Yes on the two phone orders, no on the Internet order.
Did I enjoy spending money with Marstar? Neither love or hate: I was happy with the supply of the two products, moved on to another supplier with the third I cancelled.
Did any of this cause me problems, to get upset? Nah. Not enough of a "fanboy" or "hater" to care.

For what dealing I have had with Marstar they have not been dishonest, and they have not been rude enough for me to not buy if they have what I want at a price I will pay.

Marstar: you do what you do. Meh. :yingyang:

I placed a $1400 order with Marstar on January 3rd. I received a bunch of repetitive 'confirmation' emails which never mentioned anything about shipping times etc.

I didn't hear anything from them so I called in today, 2 weeks later, to be told that my package will be 'rushed' out for shipping on Friday.

Had I known Marstar usually takes this long to process and ship an order I would have taken my business elsewhere.

I hope that this quality of service - or lack thereof, isn't a reflection of their quality of products, however, I can only imagine this is the case.

I am also disappointed with Marstar.

I have a Garand rifle that is currently being built for me by a smith. The smith was assembling the rifle and he noticed that the rear handguard ferrule was missing. He ordered the part from Marstar on January 13, 2014 and we still don't have it.

They say that they shipped the part out last Friday; however, we still don't have it and my Garand languishes. The lack of this one small part is delaying my build and I have no idea why Marstar would sit on their hands for two weeks before finally waking up and shipping the ferrule.

In the past I have had better experiences with Marstar. But their customer service is slipping. Badly.

Im done with Marstar. I recently purchased a new Norinco NP58. The online ad shows 2 mags, the description doesnt say otherwise.# It arrives with 1 mag. I emailed back regarding the discrepancy and was informed that they only ship it with 1, but I can buy the second one for $39.95 ! Guess I'll have to check the trunk of the next car I buy to see if I have to buy the spare tire seperate? I know, I know its not big $ but its the principal. You could be honest in your ad and advise that you help youself to the second mag and then its on the buyer to decide if they care or not.
Oh well, live and learn. I wont be back.

nothing on their site http://www.marstar.ca/dynamic/product.jsp?productid=75664 suggests that this item comes with 2 mags, even the video only shows 1 mag.
so either they went through a great effort to change it, or you are wrong.

What makes you think they didn't ship it, as you claim they told you?
Couriers often are late delivering items, and sometimes even misplace an item.
hell the part could be in the gunsmiths po box, and they just haven't fetched it yet.

simply put, why would a retailer lie about the day they shipped an item?

Try as I might, I looked high and low for all possible locations where you saw the ad that says the NP58 comes with two mags, and I can't find it. The ad does say that if you order a second mag, you get 10 dollars off.

So, you have your knickers in a knot over something you misunderstood?

Haha, well. . . the attached video intro shows a magazine in the pistol and another one in the "second mag" indent in the case. I have purchased 4 other Norinco pistols (big spender, I know), not from Marstar, and they have all arrived with 2 mags. Friends who own the NP58 recieved it with 2 mags. Nothing on there website suggests that it wouldnt come with 2 mags.
They know they helped themselves to the second mag, and chose not to disclose that in the description = shenanigans.
I guess its their right as the retailer . . . but all to bone you into spending another $40 . . . ?

Nothing on their website suggests it would come with 2 mags. As far as the video, just looks like an empty magazine well to me.

I ordered an NP58 from them about 2 years ago and it came with only one mag. Like others have posted, no mention of two mags.

see 0:53 and 0:56 in the video.

the first could appear to have a mag in the magwell, but when compared to 0:56, it is clear that the magwell is empty in 0:53.

They did not ship it on January 13 like they said at first. It still has not arrived. The smith is a completely squared away guy. He wants to build the rifle and he does not have the part. He is as frustrated as I am and he checks his mail every day.

Why would Marstar lie? I did not say that they lied. But I do think they are inefficient and that they don't know exactly what's going on.

They delayed my build by several weeks and I am very disappointed.

The one mag issue has dogged them for years. I can't see why they don't simply supply two like many others. That is to clearly say that others supply the NP58 with two mags. Just put the mag issue to rest.

This was explained to you in detail, please look at the picture on the site, at NO time did we say two mags at the promotional pricing.... Did you not read the reply we sent you after we received your e mail with picture ??

PLEASE take a moment to examine more carefully, what you see in the image isan empty mag well, if a mag were present the forward lip of the baseplate would be visible....
I would be curious to know which dealer is offering a better deal on the NP-58 ??
OF course if you are not satisfied simply return your purchase for a full refund....\
John
