Hello Everyone,

I'm working on building my first AR-15. I'm enjoying it immensely and I'm learning lots, but there's still lots to learn.

Like which vendors carry parts.

I don't plan on doing anything to exotic here. 223/5.56, flattop or a3 upper, Either 14.5" or 16" Barrel (still deciding), free float handguard.

I've got my lower built and tested for safe function.

Next up is to start on the upper.

So, any ideas who to call to find either a stripped upper + parts kit or a complete upper receiver?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Matt

Matt,

Are you looking for a piston or DI upper?

Approximate budget you're willing to spend?

Are you looking for a new upper or willing to consider the used/EE market?

Which lower receiver do you currently have (not that it matters, just out of curiosity :) )

BenL,

My plan was to go DI.

In terms of budget, I would describe it as 'basic.' I was looking to spend enough that I end with a reliable firearm. I don't want to buy junk, but didn't plan on building a premium/super premium gun. It won't see the round count or the abuse to merit it in my mind.

My first thought was to buy new, but I'm willing to put in some legwork on the EE (As you can see my my trader rating, that would be breaking ground as well).

My lower is based off an aero-precision.

Matt.

For your first AR it would prob be best to buy a complete upper. Learn how it works and build your second one after you figure it out.
