I'd suggest either upping your budget slightly and go for the DD, or get a more basic AR in your price range like a Stag or Windham.

I'm playing with my M4 V5 right now... can't go wrong with a Daniel Defense! I'm in the midst of a scratch build, mostly blemished or on sale parts. You do get what you pay for.

I have a ruger sr556e (great gun but heavy) over a thousand rounds through it without a single issue. I also bought a DD mk18 upper just to switch up when I want to do CQB. I don't think their is a right or wrong picking your AR, everyone has their own taste, if you like the piston than go with the ruger and upgraded the furniture later or if you want a di, my choice would be a core15, life time warranty.....who can beat that?! just my 2 pennies
