First AR Help - Bushmaster M4 A3

Pulled the trigger on my first AR and have a few questions.

1. Do I need anything special to mount and use optics? (Is front sight in way)
2. Magpul kits comes in milspec and factory, how do i know what I need?
3. When ordering pmags what is point of the 40/30 etc if pinned to 5?

1. If you're using a 1X red dot sight you'll need a mount that will elevate the red dot sight above the front sight. Most sights will come with these risers or already be at the correct height. If you're using a magnified optic the front sight will usually blur out at 3X or higher so you'll only see a shadow. You'll still need a high mount for proper cheekweld.

2. This only applies to the buttstock receiver extension type, and it's milspec vs. commercial. I don't know what Bushmaster uses--sorry! Google would probably reveal the answer.

3. For looks, for use as a monopod when prone shooting, for better fit in mag pouches. And they're just good mags, too.
