First AR...info on 7.5in barrel

I am looking to build a AR with a 7.5in barrel. Does anyone have any tips or cons on parts I should be upgrading on to prevent any reliability issues?
Is is worth, or can a Norinco AR-15 be turned into a 7.5in?

norc doesnt make a 7.5.
but you could buy 1, sell the upper and buy the upper you want. but may be better to buy a complete lower then a 7.5 upper elsewhere.

PDW AR15s can be finicky if you don't have the right gas tube, buffer, etc. But built correctly, they're as reliable as the components used. They are abhorrently loud to shoot without some type of compensator, though. With respect to your second question, no - because you can't reduce the barrel without making it a prohibited weapon, and by the time you replace everything on the Norc you'd have been further ahead just buying a dedicated 7.5" upper.

My experience is that they are notoriously hard to engineer reliability into, and have limited use -other than making giant fireballs. The average "all burnt" length for .223 is around 11 inches.

But you are correct as far as components - they need the correct gas port size, and usually a very heavy buffer.

Buying a purpose built shorty would probably have a lot less headaches than trying to cobble together a frankenshorty.

Any recommendations on a proper Lower to start off with, for a 7.5 upper ?

I didn't build it, I bought it and added the PWS CQB muzzle device to it

It is an attention grabber for sure, fireballs are epic!
 
Find what ever AR lower: a) you can get and b) you like. Asking for preferences here is like opening a barrel of worms. Look around at the build threads.

You'll need a heavy buffer and I would try to get a FA bolt. The more weight behind that chamber the better.

I wouldn't build a 7.5 for my first AR, but if it makes you happy...

If you absolutely have your heart set on a 7.5" as your first AR15, go with something pre-built. You'll want something like the PWS CQB or Noveske Flaming Pig for a compensator. As for lowers, I'd get the pre-built Aero Precision from Saskatoon GunWorks for $297 (for that price I think you'd be hard-pressed to build one separately).

NEA 7.5 barrel, nea pistol length tube, nea gas block into a generic cerro forged upper and a brownells f/a BCG. Dlask XB1 brake/hider. 300+ rounds and no FTE or FTF or accuracy issues.

Build what you want. If it doesn't work, figure out why and learn how to fix it. That is the fun of it.

there is a stripper areo lower the guy is asking for a trade, but he may be willing to sell it for $.
but you may find its cheaper to call saskatoon gun works and buy a complete lower with a free mag for $297... tough to beat.

i love the look of this, but i cant see myself getting a 7.5" anytime soon.
the PWS CQB muzzle break looks amazing.
