First AR on its way - help me pick optics

You're not a FUDD based on the rifles you like or own. You're a FUDD when you don't like a rifle and think others shouldn't have them either.

To each his own.

I was kidding - poking fun at myself. I come from a family of hunters but I'm the only one with an RPAL thus far. I've never thought that guys shouldn't have guns I don't like. As for guns I don't like, the list is pretty short - which can be a problem for the pocketbook. :)

Probably going to catch flak for this, but personally, I just run irons on my AR. To each their own, its just how I roll. Cheaper, more simple, and they never run out of batteries :) That being said, in an Elcan C-79 somehow made its way into my hands, I would ditch the irons in a heartbeat. Aimpoint is a good option, but I have also liked the vortex spitfire, but as stated before, the cheek weld isn't for everyone :p Best of luck

Ps, I come from a family of hunters as well. The only family member that doesn't give me a hard time about my black guns is my old man, and that's probably only because he's a retired police officer and was on the Tac Team for seven years, so I know the struggle :)

If you are thinking about Vortex Sparc...one of the good thing about this little red dot is the gratuitous windage and elevation adjustment.

Go all Classic Aimpoint. Black Hawk Down Style.

You'll need some pretty tall rifle bag for that setup...

I've been to the mall ninja setup and back, and its absolutely fine to have a whole lot of stuff on a rifle, but I'm leaning towards minimalist style these days.

So depends what you want to do, given that ARs are range toys you will probably never need more than 3.5-4x magnification or any at all, not too many 200 yards+ ranges where I am at.

I would stick to irons or just a T1 micro red dot, eotechs with 1 dot are also great if your eyes are a little old, or even better yet a tiny trijicon rmr 4moa, if you really need magnification get an acog 3.5x or an elcan specterOS.
Specter DRs are great, I own one, but pricey. Browe BSO 4x32 are great too, that is what is on my Colt when the T1 aimpoint is not on it.

I always use my Aimpoint with my irons flipped up, that way it teaches me where to hold when I use my irons.

Many years ago we had a lil 11.5" bushmaster and this was early 2000s we just went with a drop down carrying handle mount for the A2.
