Heya Folks,

I'm sure this has been done to death but I am looking for some opinions by folks who have some experience with A/R's.

I am going to get my first A/R in 2012 for target shooting. I will be looking for something that will be accurate at up to 300 yards. I will be looking to spend between no more than 2k all in.

Can you folks make some recommendations? I am looking to buy once and buy quality.

Thanks!

Do some research, and by that, I don't mean asking for what are essentially (in some cases very uninformed) opinions from complete strangers on the internet.

Go to sites like this:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/spre...=2&output=html

http://www.03designgroup.com/

http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=56063

Do some reading, and educate yourself.

Buy the best basic 14.5" carbine length DI rifle you can afford. Be sure to factor a dozen Pmags and 1000-2000 rounds into your budget, and put some cash aside for a sling and possibly an optic later on.

Go here:

http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=7376

and read and follow the suggestions on what to check before heading out to the range.

Shoot at least 1000 rounds. Also, try to attend a carbine course, or get some instruction from a suitably qualified person.

Decide what on the rifle doesn't work for you. Upgrade those parts/accessories only. Do not buy anything just because it looks cool or the deltarangerseals use it. If you can, try to use a similar rifle with the same parts/accessories before purchasing, to decide whether they will do what you want them to.

Alternatively, you could just send your money to me, Claven, or whoever takes your fancy, and we will buy the rifle we think you should have, and mail it to you.

Of course, this is the internet, it's just my opinion, and it's your money.

Regards.

Heh thanks guys. I've been poking around on those sites Mark, thanks. Taking my time right now; the money isn't burning a hole in my pocket or anything. Like I said, I want to buy once and be happy! :)

I would tend to agree with the others, the LMT is probably the best out of the box rifle at a reasonable price in Canada right now.

This would be my shopping list:

http://www.theammosource.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_108_109&products_id=6

It will come to a bit over $2200 plus taxes and shipping, a little more if you double up on the mags, but you will never regret it, and using it for a while will then allow you to decide if you NEED to change out, or add, anything.

Do not fall into the trap of buying any of the tacticool junk that some people rush out and get even before their transfer comes through. The following is good advice:

Again, it's your money, and this is just my 0.02 cents.

Regards.
