Are you after a piston drive rifle or a direct impingement rifle.

IIRC the Ruger SR556 is a piston rifle - and out of your price range. Could you be thinking about the AR556 from Ruger?

And yes, I'd choose the Ruger AR556. I don't own one, but I do own other Ruger firearms, and have not heard anything bad about the Ruger.

I wouldn't buy a Ruger AR - the SR is a nose heavy beast, and the AR has a plastic front sight mast with a separate gas block. The SR does not accept standard gas system lengths, so replacing the barrel is a no go unless you have a complete custom barrel built. Haven't checked the AR556, but separating the sight from the gas block would seem to indicate it has a nonstandard gas system too. Keep an eye on irunguns for a PSA, excellent quality at a great price,

I have the DB15 on order, I can't speak for any of the models you mentioned. But the DB seens to be a lot of bang for the buck and had some good reviews

Look also at the Wyndham Weaponry ones too.

I have one and its always a hit, even with those who have rifles double the price. Retired CF guy said a few times he wished they had my rifle instead of the issue rifles.

They are ex Bushmaster employees who didn't like the path Bushy was taking when it was bought out.

And it has a transferrable lifetime warranty.

Mine has been excellent.

why does everyone always have that ruger AR when they mention what first AR should I choose?

am I missing something? are retailers offereing a first AR buyers discount on that ruger?

I wouldn own that ruger even if someone gave it to me for free
