Where did you come up with the manual? Think that was the military's answer to complaints coming from the jungles of Viet Nam, about poor performance and problems with the rifle.

The 'Nam-era M16A1 is my favorite configuration from the AR 15 series.

Nice job.

This rifle did have an impact on weapons development. Once the Americans figured out how to get the M16 working properly, the Vietnamese communists and their Soviet comrades were finally forced to take notice of its improved range over the AK 47 and its reduced recoil, leading the Soviets to start work on the AK 74 to counter the new NATO family of 5.56 rifles.

when i read retro i was thinking something completely different. not sure why. i wonder how hard it would be to find this:

wood furniture doesn't look bad at all i think.
 
Nice guys! thats pretty close to the real look. No deflecter bump and FAssist, now you need the A1 grip. PS I haven't shot it off the bipod yet

It looks to me like your AR-15A2 is a parts gun, with an A2 lower receiver, and an A1 upper with a HBAR barrel screwed into it.

AFAIK it's not possible to put A1 sights onto an A2 upper and vice versa, also your upper doesn't have the case deflector that's standard on A2 uppers.

What markings are on the barrel forward of the front sight (that's where the calibre and barrel twist are marked)?

Im not concerned even if it is a parts rifle to be honest. I couldnt be happier with the accuracy and the overall quality of the rifle. If it was made from parts, whomever did the work knew what they were doing thats for sure.

As for markings I will get back to you.
