It is my first attempt at painting a rifle stock. What do you think?? It isn't the greatest, but it should do for now... All I need now is the rifle to go in it.

It is a M-14 USGI stock. I used the Krylon Camo system which I bought at Canadian Tire. First I stripped off the old paint then used Krylon grey primer. I then did a base coat of OD Green. For the patterns I just cut stencils out of paper and taped them on. It is not hard at all. If I can do it, anybody can. I used a krylon clearcoat to finish it off. There are a lot of little mistakes which you can't really see in the pics. I think I may redo it when my M-305 arrives from Marstar now that I have some expierence with it. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Edit: The finish is very durable. It should stand up to any abuse I can dish at it.

If you want the most resistant finish going...Automotive paints are where its at. Standox makes an Aluminum clear that is for re-finishing rims. It is more resiliant than regular auto clear (which is tough stuff anyway)... You could probably spray it over a very well prepared spray bomb job. They also sell flatening agents that could make the finish anywhere from satan to flat.

I'm looking at doing the same thing, but I want a clear epoxy top-coat. Anyone have any ideas?

Mercuryv8 - good idea with the automotive route. Can you suggest a source for the Standox products in Canada?

In Edmonton Napa sells Dupont stuff and other, Carlsons autobody supply sells all sorts of stuff.

All this is great but I can't remember where I got the Standox...It was near Labats on the South side...In the same strip as K-Rock 97.3

Awesome Matt. I was ready to fly out to NFLD and beat you for stripping the pebble. As soon as I saw your paint job I cancelled my flight:p Well done. You also use the same stencil technique I use. Your stock's a beaut.

tufenuf, yours is awesome as well. Did you use an airbrush? I only ask because of the shading. Beautiful work!

Anyway, both of you guys have done great work. I wish I was as talented:(
