First Big Game Rifle Now Complete

In the very early 70's I was saving to buy my wife an engagement ring. At that time Winchester had brought out the discontinued M-64 for one year. Called it a 64A. I was looking around in a sports shop one Sat. in Toronto, the fella made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I bought the rifle +nice case + a box of silver tip 30-30's for $90 bucks. The engagement and wedding never took place for 2 more years, as I never made much as an apprentice tradesman and money was real tight. That was my very first rifle, and wife.

My first, best and only rifle I will ever use for hunting is my Remington 7600 in 30-06. Was made same year I was born, bought it when I was 17 still in the box slopped with factory vaseline thick grease. Killed 8 deer in the first 3 years I had it and at least one every year since;) Will NEVER hunt with any other rifle than this one till the day I die or it's unrepairable! Also killed a bear with it and I can't begin to count how many whistle pigs and beaver it's killed;)

I love how attached a man can get to his rifle of choice. I hope when you die it lives on with your children/family.
A good rifle can be a timeless family heirloom.

For sure man! I started going to deer camp hunting on a watch with my Grand mother when I was 4, week off school every year to go! I remember always looking at my uncles 760 pump and from that time when I was little I knew I had to have one! I finally got one when I was 17 and held it dearly since and always will. My kids kids will have it and if it gets sold along the way I'll haunt em I swear!!

You ever use different guns here and there but there's always that one that just feels right? That's what my 30-06 is to me, in my gang you gotta prove yourself with a shotgun before you can hunt with a rifle. Once I did that I found the "Meat Seeker" and it's been on like bing bong ever since! Couldn't pay me to use a different rifle for any hunting I'll ever do till the bitter end!!

My first rifle I owned was is a model 70 pre-64 sporter in .270 given to me by my grandpa. He "loaned" me a 6mm in a rem 700 my first year, a .257 bob in 700 the next, a 25-06 varminter in a 700 the third and finally my .270. He was known to do that for his grandchildren who hunted, unfortunately, I think I was the last grandchild to have the privilege.:(

I finally tracked down the sling I wanted and installed it today.
All ready for deer season. I'm itching to get out there!

Just thought I'd share.

Maybe a little conversation.... What was your first big (N.A) game rifle?

Really nice looking combination.
Congratulations !
My 1st. was a Winchester pre-64 (1955) Winchester 94 in 30 WCF. I still own and use it. It's as slick and accurate as it was 58 years ago and has laid out many a deer and moose on the ground in the hands of Dad and my uncles.
Just picked up a Winchester 94 Trails End (take down) in 450 Marlin cheap and topped it with a recycled (from a recent gun sale) Leupold 2-7x33mm "Rifleman" bush scope.

Thanks! Nice set up on the .450
One of these days I'll own a pre 64 Win94. I love that rifle. Feel free to post pics if you have them.
