Glad you could get back on your feet and get out hunting. Looks like you had a good day for it and everyone had a good time.
Also looks like you're grappling with the same problem I'm having this year - the rose bushes are chewing up my Brit's front end. I've considered the dog's vest, like that the one of your dogs is wearing. My concern is that unless it fits perfectly, the straps could wear on the dog or rose branches could get caught under the vest.
I've been using waterproof medical tape to fashion makeshift wrist guards. They work well enough to stop the wear and tear, but they sometimes fall off. They are rugged enough to stay on most of the time, but not so strong that the dog can't rip them off if he wants.
I'd like to hear your thoughts and those of anybody else who hunts with dogs in thorny environments.

The vest is quite adjustable and I've never had problems with wear on his skin or burrs getting trapped. I use them because a trainer I knew back in the day had his dog killed when it impaled itself on a broken branch and he recommended the vest to help prevent this. Boone also likes his vest and will drag it out when he feels its been too long between trips. I've been using one type or another now for 40 years. My old boy Chipp wore it his whole hunting career and still likes to "drees up" for walks

Boone and I went out by ourselves on Sunday and had some luck. We sadly lost one bird in a big slough and even with Boone swimming to each side we couldn't find it. We were lucky the landowner stopped by to chat and he was kind enough to take a picture . The birds were very jumpy but Boone stayed with it.
