I decided that my next firearm purchase would be a non restricted .233. I used the search function many times trying to research the options available. Main use will be at the range as it is a 10 minute drive but I have access to farm land as well. My budget is around the $2500 without optics. I am 6'3" with a thick upper body so finding firearms that fit me comfortable can be a challenge. Lucky for me I have a store 30 minutes away with a great selection, they always seem to have what you are trying to find. I was able to handle a Tavor, Swiss arms, XCR, Sl8, and MR1.
The Tavor came to my shoulder decent. Just not sure if a bullpup design is really what I wanted, so I didn't spend too much time with it but it definitly is a very cool.
Swiss arms very nice, hard to find anything that really wrong with it. I think that it would need a cheek piece of some kind for optics. Really more than the budget I had but very hard to put it down.
The XCR was the one after all the research that I though I would endup with. Lots of nice features, left side charge handle, magazine release, bolt release all very easy to use. It had the new FAST stock but i found it too short for me. The ambi safety in the fire position my right hand was resting on the lever which was not comfortable.
The MR1, the ugly duckling of the bunch. Also the best balanced and came to my shoulder the best. I wanted to mount a scope but after looking at the rail and the stock it would not shoulder correct. If I didn't want to mount a scope this rifle would be almost perfect for fit. I didn't care for the bolt release or magazine release. If they came out with an adjustable cheek stock and a long rail without iron sights I would have a hard time deciding what to purchase.
SL8 is what I purchased. It is consistant when I bring it to my shoulder, always in the right spot. Adjustable stock is nice, I need to extend LOP a bit but easy to do. I like the charging handle design and find it easy to disassebly. The ambi safety is useless with the thumbhole stock, but easy to shift my right hand and use my knuckle to manipulate. Because of the thumbhole stock my hand ends up in the same position as it only fits one way. My finger isn't exaclty on the trigger as I would like but this is something that I deal with on many of my firearms. It really came down to the Swiss arms and the SL8 for me. Tough choice, but with a $1200 difference in price was a factor. The price difference buys a scope, reloading supplies, magazines and other accessories down the road. I have some 69grSMK on order, need to do some load development and get out shooting.
