First Buck Big Buck -Good Taxidermy Ottawa Valley

Jacque Hotte from Antlers, Feathers &Fins in North Gower did mine last fall. Super impressed. His # is 613- 258-1227.

Very nice buck, especially for your first. Sadly Rick Poulin passed away last year. He would have been my recommendation. Over the last 20 years Rick did several Whitetail mounts for me.
Make sure to talk to former customers of shops you are considering and carefully inspect the work. Also get an exact, clear quote including completion time. Don't be tempted with a low price quote. Nothing sadder than a "cheap job" of a great animal.

Thanks , looks like ill be going to whitetail taxidermy. Any Idea on how you get the patch for successful deer hunt?

Take the hide (the part that won't be mounted) to hat-for-hide depot to get a hat and crest. Look for the nearest location here. hatsforhides.com

Nice buck. Don't worry to much about cutting to far up the neck a creative taxidermist can cover it. I guarantee they give you a quick lesson on how to dress your next trophy for mounting.

dropped him off at whitetailtaxidermy.ca in Carp, work I did see seemed really good. going for a semi sneak mount looking to the left.

Thanks for the kind words, ive only been deer hunting 5 years, shot my first deer last year (a big doe chased by dogs at 25 yards) I am speechless as to how I got such a monster buck as my first. Buck fever kicked in and I didn't realise how far the shot was. had some shooting sticks and was sitting in a chair and swear I pulled the shot, after the shot there was nothing i figured he ran as the fog was thick. He was shot with a 308 Winchester-Hornady TAP-FPD 168gr (got 3 boxes of the ammo with a KelTec RFB I bought then sold, read up if it was suitable for deer. It is quite deadly but fragments quite abit, Dropped two deer with it and my Ruger American COmpact)

There were a few other deer in the field but we couldnt get my buddy shooting as we couldnt confirm if any of them were the spike buck we seen on camera because of the fog, hoping for antlerless tags next year.

We waited 30 minutes for the fog to clear but it didn't. Changed to a spot with a higher vantage point and waited some more,me looking where I thought I shot the deer.

Another 30 minutes passed until I thought I saw the ass end of a deer and a piece of antler. Yelled to my buddy said I think I see him, 50 metres more and there he was. Thank god we zeroed at 2 inches high at 150 metres. He was DRT.

Weather was warm so I gutted as fast as I could, dragged him the kilometre or so across the field stuffed him into my ford fusion with help from my family who had to drive 30 minutes (HE FIT!) and got him skinned out quartered and in the beer fridge by the evening. All the local butchers were full, so my father in law is coming back from his hunting trip to help me butcher him tomorrow.

I promised my buddy if any of us shot a deer i'd split the meat, kinda regretting that now ;)...kidding aside I hope my mount turns out good! Ill keep everyone posted when I do get it .

Looks like there was lots of good food around for that old boy! His FACE is even chubby :)

Dis you score him yet? Is he still typical with the split brow tines and forked g2s?

Magnificent deer, congratulations! Who cares what he scores? That memory is priceless, regardless of some arbitrary number.

Please post pics of the completed mount when you get it back.

And don't forget the lesson to be learned here: Always carefully follow-up on a shot you take, regardless of how it looked when you took it. What a shame that would have been if you hadn't found him...and it sounds like you almost didn't! Thank goodness it worked out for you. Again, congratulations. :)
