Here they are - its completely different feeling to load your own bullets as opposed to bought ones.

700gr 500 S&W - the bullets are not perfect but they are usable :)

(My seater seems to leave the mark on top) I did try to flare the brass a bit more to make seating easier.

Not too shabby. I've been casting my own since I was 17. Lots of wheelweights through the ladle. Just in the last year, I've been messing with alloys and shooting BPCR silhouette. That's another world of casting. Holding 1 to 1.5 minute groups out to 500 metres (and more on occasion) with homemade slugs. Get the most recent copy of Handloader. Mike Venturino has a good article on the myths of casting.

22.5 grains of 4759

The maximum load I found is 27 grains of Lil'Gun with the following tag underneath it.

1120fps - damn this mule kicks, had to use gloves, both on my right hand to stand the recoil. Good spread & accuracy. You won't shoot many of these
 
Paulinski: if you can remove seater and spin in a drill, drill press or lathe, polish that edge with medium then fine emery cloth. Works well on seaters and expanders.
 
You can also form the seater using 2 part epoxy. Coat the bullet in some sort of release agent like a light coat of wax or case lube. Mix up some epoxy then apply to the seating punch and put the two square to one another by whatever means available. I used to run the seating plug down as far as it would go, then moosh the bullet affixed to the case against it all mounted in the press. If it sounds complex, then it's because I'm bad at explaining stuff. Or you could just live with it. The difference is only cosmetic in my experience.

So what is your cost per round loading with cast vs. getting hosed on factory stuff? And I must know... granted, what I am about to ask is a total violation of the cardinal rules of gun ownership, but what did you purchase a monster like that for? I know a few guys that have bought .50's. Both Desert Eagles and X-frames. I could justify one for hunting, but not for pounding paper or even steel plates. .44 Mag was more than enough to shoot IHMSA Silhouette with, and that sport has long fizzled. Just wondering about the mindset.

As to why - I dunno I guess because I can and the satisfaction of creating such monsters by myself.

700gr:eek:!! That's quite a chunk of lead out of the 500 S&W. What load? Is it the S&W handgun you're shooting them out of or a rifle? I'm shooting an 8 3/8" Smith and with hot loads using anything heavier than 300grs, it's a handful.

I've got my best jacketed accuracy results with 350gr HP's, either Sierra or Hornady. A 'modified' 325gr Speer also works well and I've recently acquired some 400gr Sierra JSP that I have yet to try out. Hornady also makes a 500gr that I tried out but didn't get as good accuracy as I did with the 350's.

In cast I've tried a number in weights including 350gr, 370gr, 410gr and a 440gr GC, the 440gr seems to work the best for me with light or heavy loads.
 
Is that reload not too long for the cyl? I'm making a LBT 500 gr. LFN Gc for the .500 but haven't had any feedback yet on it's accuracy or smackdown.....congrats on the 700 grainer!!!

Max OAL with 700gr is 2.320".

Thanks I'm going to try them on sat. I found some more load data 27gr of LiL'Gun should be good for 1120fps. :eek:

Let us know how they are, I cast 400, 440 and 500 gr for my 500 S&W, the 500's have a bit of boot to them, can't imagine what a 700 would be like.
