just purchased my first competition belt/rig today and I'm just wondering how far should my magazine pouches/magnets be spaced apart. in the pic below they are obviously too far apart but I left them like that so you guys could just tell me how much closer to move them. the front loader on the left is positioned behind my hip bone as per ipsc production class rules.

The correct answer is...that there is no correct answer. Arrange them how you feel you like them best.

Some of us have to have them close together because there's not enough real estate to spread them out. You need to figure out how far around your back you can go and still retrieve them quickly and comfortably. What works good for me might not work good for you you, and vice versa.

Here's what I'd do after placing the first pouch as far forward as possible:

Drop a mag from your gun, and simply "return" it to your belt behind the pouch.

Note the location and angle.

We often overthink the draw, when it should simply be the reverse of re-inserting.

Place the pouches accordingly, then try drawing from them. As a production shooter, you do have less options... But I found when I shot production that straight up wasn't what worked for me, especially towards the rear.

this :)

when i started i had them straight up but after a couple of matches i started to adjust them to a slight angle and increased the angle as they got farther back. its hard to figure out until you have run a couple of matches then just tweak gradually as you go until it feels right to you.

I set mine by adjusting them to an angle that allows a comfortable draw from the pouch. Then I put them as close together as I can without hanging up on the next mag over as I pull the one I want. Really sucks to suddenly discover you have accidently dropped a mag on the ground and now you need it!!
