Today was opening day in my south eastern Ontario hunting area. Beautiful day and now thirty less of the stinkin habitat destroyers. Also called in two geese with no goose decoys. BONUSIMG_9587[1].jpg

Hi chris nice to see your pics of the cormorant hunt

old timer lou 76, or 8 line louie, or sidewinder

Hey Lou! You’ll be happy to know they were killed with the shells you gave me. The fellow in the pic with Cash(the dog) is Rob the long range rifle sniper. I used my Shotkam and the footage is awesome just have to get someone much brighter than me to post it!! I can shoot pretty well just not the computer type.

Your dog looks happy.
The dog is not mine. I won’t use my dog on them. Their beaks are like razor blades and I’d be afraid of my dog losing an eye or getting ripped open. Cash got whacked by a crippled one three times. She doesn’t seem to mind but I’m not subjecting my dog to that danger. I try to make sure they’re dead when they hit the water.

Awesome. ive heard about back in the day, in Aus, they had cormerant shoots.......... now the cormerant is protected or some ####...... upsets me really.

a good cormerant is a dead one

I guided for a living for many years for waterfowl, deer, turkeys and fish. Spent 225 days a year plus or minus on the water, depending on the weather of that year! Spent lots of very cold days in Late December and January hunting fowl. Not for the faint of heart but the diehards grind it out. The damage both on the habitat and the entire fish population is incredible! It wasn’t until I killed a bunch and seen the different species they target. It became evident that anything is fair game and they can consume fish in the two pound range. We had a bunch last year with Muskie fry from different year classes. A member of our gun club( shotgun only) was the founding member of muskies Canada Ottawa chapter and when I mentioned our findings to him, well let’s just say he was all ears. They have noticed a great reduction in earlyyear class muskies and the decline has come at an alarming rate. They weren’t sure if it was weather or habitat related but never thought of the predation of cormerants. Our little hunting group have already reduced the population by a little over 200. We are aiming at 1000 this year!
