the season came early for me this year.... drove a lot to get in moose country and got a deer. I was alone so a bull moose looked out of the question, unless it happened to be in love with my tailgate and wait for me to shoot. So I was i a search for a calf when I saw two does coming into the cut, As I moved I realized that it was too fast and I was outlined on the sky, but too late. They started running to the edge of the woods and stopped for a second, righ at the treeline for a quick look back. 230 yds (lasered after) 308 180gr NP. 2740fps did the trick. I thought it was further away so I held a bit high... bad habit from having rifles dead on @100 yds, This one was zeroed @200, obviously.
The good ol' Mauser shot wonderful and the trouble was getting it out.
It was so big, I could berely move it. Had to quarter it to get out
Got two grouse in the first day and the deer on the second. Less hunting, more skinning this season. I had to go back with the deer, so no moose.
maybe a buck for later ?
