I use to use my old Mossberg 16 ga. to hunt ducks back in high school. I haven't done any duck hunting since 1985.
This summer a buddy of mine convinced me to get back into it so I picked up an Ithica M37 and found an on-line outdoor store where I got $600 worth of clothing for less than $200 (a big clearance sale). Got a pair of SnoBee waders from a local shop and I was ready to go.
So this Monday we went out for opening day. Since we are close enough to feel the effects of Hurricane Isaac that was heading towards NF, the weather absolutely sucked. But my new Columbia goodies kept me warm and dry.
We could only hunt the morning as I had to fly to NF later in the day, but we had a great time. We got a few teals, a few blacks and a few shags. I went threw a box of Win Drylock #2 and 1/2 a box of Drylock BB. My buddy has a Browning 10 ga. semi that is pure joy to shoot - felt recoil is significantly less than my Ithica. I gotta get 1 of these babies -- I going to have to start paying more attention to my hidden-money-for-guns-the-wife-doesn't-need-to-know-about-yet fund.
Pardon the pun, but in simple terms -- WHAT A BLAST !!! I'm hooked. Can't wait to get back home and go again. Rain or shine, I don't care. Originally, I was only going to take 1 week of holidays to do some deer hunting this fall, but now I'm going to take an extra week (or 2) to get some more duck / geese hunting in. Thankfully, I still have 5 weeks to take before the end of the year.
BIG thanx to my buddy Mark for getting me back into this.
Now, I have another guy trying to talk me into getting into yote hunting this fall. Might have to wait til next fall as I don't have a gun suitable for yotes -- I'd like to eventually get either a 223 WSSM or a 204 Ruger.
All these new hunting opportunites are giving me GAS --- Gun Acquisition Syndrome
