I am looking to purchase my first Lee Enfield rifle, and came across a 1943 Longbranch model. It's a No4 Mk 1 and the bore and furniture are in great shape, rear sight is a Mk 3. The price was a bit more than i was looking to spend ( almost $700 ), is this a bit steep? I shure would like to have a Canadian made rifle in my collection, as it's made here and has some good history behind it. If anyone has some Longbranch rifle advice please share it.

Thanks

Even for a LB that expensive. If you're just looking for a shooter you can get a great one for less than half that price.

Half-life...good game...

Anyhow, 'bout the rifle. You should be able to get one for half that. $300-$350. Even with todays prices.

Now if you look at tomorrows prices....

I've got a really nice one forsale on the EE for $700 but it is really a bit too nice to use as a shooter which is why it is forsale and at that price. I rougher one but still a good shooter should be had for around $300 to $400.

Longbranch

Waaaayyyyy over priced, especially as 1943 is most common year. Would have to be "true unfired,in the grease" to come close to that IMHO. Now if a 1941?!?!

Long Branch war dated Enfield is one of those things I wish to own befre I die .... No way I could ever afford one in the forseeable future though.

Why not? They're not rare. When I was a kid, half my ranch/farm friends' old man had them leanin' up against a corner in the boot closet or buried in a pile of crap in the basement. I just picked one up for less than a norky m14. It's probably gonna have alot of lead through it but hey what's another couple thousand rounds? :)
Rob you want one so bad I'll clean it up and send it to ya after I put some range time in.

2-300$ for that... keep lookin. If this is your first, just remember that they don't come with the warning labels.

("may be addictive")

Thank you for all the info so far guys. I think I will pass on this one, and look at getting a shooter that is in good shape as my first Enfield. I have seen quite a few nice shooters for much less than the Longbranch I was looking at. A nice one caught my eye yesterday, and it is 300 bucks, wood and bore in very good condition, Mk 1 rear sight, c braod arrow stamp, not too sure if all the numbers match though. Will have to call for some more info.
