First gen Vanguard value

This thread is confusing. As stated earlier the Vanguard came out in 69/70. These are the first generation Vanguards. So I assume what we are talking about here is the Series 2, compared to the other various Vanguards offered after 2003 in synthetic stocks. There was no rifle called a series 1 as far as I know.

Any Vanguard before the Series 2 is usually referred to as the Series 1 or "1st generation". 1st gen isn't necessarily referring to the very first rifles they made.

I don't know the entire history regarding Vanguards or Vanguards offered in synthetic stocks but in November 1989 I purchased a new Vanguard wearing a synthetic stock. As far as I know it was the first time Weatherby used the Weatherguard name. Serial number VL22###. I keep hearing about how the triggers in these rifles aren't very good. I must have got lucky because the trigger on this rifle is adjustable and breaks really nice. I definitely wouldn't pay good money to replace it. You do have to take the action out of the stock in order to adjust the trigger, obviously that's no problem, however it's not a straight forward simple adjustment to make if you want the sear adjustment checked at the same time the pull weight is changed unless you know exactly how to do it so years ago I had a gunsmith adjust it for me, he did a great job.

Further to add, there was a bolt recall on some of these units as well.
Had to send mine into Epps.
Only thing I could see diffrunt was the bolt shroud was replaced with coloured
letters for the safety.

Yes the bolt on this rifle was also recalled as well. I called Weatherby when I heard about the recall and gave them the serial number. They mailed me a prepaid padded envelope to use to send the bolt down to them for the recall work to be done. It took about three weeks to get it back. And same here, the only thing that I could see that was different was that the bolt shroud was replaced and the new shroud had the coloured letters for the safety instead of the original smaller white letters.

Hey folks looking for a ballpark value on a first gen Vanguard in 25-06, rifle belongs to a buddy and want to make him a offer. I don't have any pics but its just a reg Vanguard with blued barrel and dark grey weatherby stock

Either way if you purchase your buddy's Vanguard or not contacting Weatherby to find out if the bolt was recalled on this rifle is a good idea. Plus using the serial number they could give you some information on the rifle the year it was made and what it is exactly etc.

It's a bit more but site sponsor Prairie Gun Traders has a, Vanguard S2 DBM, Blued barrel Synthetic stock, Detachable mag, in 25-06, $799.99. I've made a few purchases with them including a Savage Model 11. I definitely recommend them, they've always been good to me.
