This thread is confusing. As stated earlier the Vanguard came out in 69/70. These are the first generation Vanguards. So I assume what we are talking about here is the Series 2, compared to the other various Vanguards offered after 2003 in synthetic stocks. There was no rifle called a series 1 as far as I know.
^^this exactly^^Any Vanguard before the Series 2 is usually referred to as the Series 1 or "1st generation". 1st gen isn't necessarily referring to the very first rifles they made.

I don't know the entire history regarding Vanguards offered in synthetic stocks but in November 1989 I purchased a new Vanguard wearing a synthetic stock. As far as I know it was the first time Weatherby used the Weatherguard name. Serial number VL22###. I keep hearing about how the triggers in these rifles aren't very good. I must have got lucky because the trigger on this rifle is adjustable and breaks really nice. I definitely wouldn't pay good money to replace it.

Further to add, there was a bolt recall on some of these units as well.
Had to send mine into Epps.
Only thing I could see diffrunt was the bolt shroud was replaced with coloured
letters for the safety.
