Good morning guys.

I am looking at purchasing my first Glock pistol and to be honest am very confused on the various models - many of which are prohib here in Canada.
What would be a good first choice in the 9mm variety? I have shot lots of 9mm and have been handed down a Berreta 90-two from my old man. I have shot several at the range, but was never explained the differences.
Any help would be greatly appreciated for a Newbie in the semi-auto world!

Thanks!

Yo strait up da 3rd gen glock 17 be da best. Dont be frontin wit no 40s cuz da nina got it locked. I aint feelin da gen4 cuz dey be less accurate. All da illest soldiers on da street n thug roll wit da gen 3 17

Dirt is spot on. A glock 17 is the full size 9mm variant. Gen 3 or 3.5 as is often referenced is the benchmark for reliability and features. The Gen 4 guns have the bugs worked out if that interests you.

If your hands are wet I find the Gen 4 stipple gives much better grip, the accuracy difference is minimal at 25 yards if at all, and the thugs need be going straight to jail. Do not pass GO, Do not collect $200

Get the 17. Generation doesn't really matter. If you get Gen 3, buy a houge grip sleeve and that will be fine. But get the 17 becuase it is fully covered by warranty, not that it will break becuase it's a Glock. The warranty is void once you use a different barrel in them so that's why.

I posted some pics of new Glock 20 and 21 Gen 4's for someone else who was asking about a 9mm gen 4 and for the slight cost difference you get and extra mag too, that pays the difference and a few feature benefits as well in comparison to the Gen3 that comes with 2 mags

I'm still learning tho and don't know how to link a post I made in another thread for conveinience sorry :p

for 9mm the glock17 gen3 or 4 will be great. a glock19 is a compact model and has a slightly longer barrel added for our awful laws.

Some of the Target and ipsc guys like the extra barrel 8), and I always thought the compact was a smaller grip for smaller hands?

But our laws are pretty lame in some cases A+ for that seriously, what's the real difference between 4'' and 4.24'' its still not a real compact.

well said Rasp76, well said...

Thanks for your suggestions guys, the 17 gen 3 is probably going to be my best bet. Can't wait!

Newbieglock is right though you'll want a grip of some sort on a gen3, I prefer grip tape personally, The sleeves can slip sometimes for me, but its personal preference

I found a 17 gen 2 and love it,
the finger grooves I felt with gen 3/4 just didnt fit my hands well...

And that's something you just cant argue with! 8)

If you don't like the way a pistol or any firearm feels or its un-natural then it will always bother you.

Weren't the Early Glock's and at a different grip angle than the 3's and 4's?

Yes. I'm pretty sure they didn't have the arched frame. It was just straight.

And that you just can't change, either it fits or it doesn't, The early Glock's are far more 1911ish in their grip angle

You'd probably be a good 1911 shooter, if you ever get the chance to try one I would if you like early Glocks you will be at home with any 1911 based pistol

Thank god I belong to a range with PLENTY of pistols to rent for free if you buy their ammo!
I'm going Sunday, going to try several generations to see what fits my hand best before my much anticipated purchase.
I like the grip tape idea...
