Glock 17, Gen 4. Don't listen to anyone about accuracy, it's equally accurate to the Gen 3. (And let's be honest, as a new shooter, the pistol is Way more accurate then you are shooting it)
When considering Gen 3 vs Gen 4, look at the mods people. Gen 3s often have Hogue Grips or grip tape, and enlarged magazine releases. The Gen 4 comes with an enlarged release, an extra mag from the factory, and additional back straps as well as improved texture. If you want to do the mods, go for a Gen 3, if you want all the mods and a host of other improvements Stock, get a Gen 4. Don't know if you'll need the enlarged mag release? Walk into your local gun shop, ask to see a Glock 17, one a Gen 3 and one a Gen 4, and see which mag release works better for you.
Also, while a 9-5 job keeps from being aware of the most current language of the streets, I believe "Thug Lyfe" is appropriate.
