First Glock!

After almost replaced every part of my G17 and then reverted them all. Here is my honest view.

1) Buy a few more mags

2) Buy a better speed loader

3) Buy grip tape.

4) (optional) May be a fiber optic front sight

Save all the other would be spent money on ammo.

Done

Try the 3 backstrap grip adapters and install the one that feels the best.
Try the stock sights first. Most hate them. If not, get some Dawson Precision Sauvigny sights or Meprolite /Trijicon night sights.
Get spare 10/17 mags for easier loading. Buy lots of ammo. Make sure they're jacketed ammo and not exposed lead rounds.
That's it!

Buy a few more magazines (OEM or PMAGS)
Buy some ammo and shoot
Repeat

Dont modify until you can shoot it good in the stock form, this will save you a lot of money down the road.

2 more mags, MagLula speed loader, new sights.

Exactly how mine are set up.
My 19 has Trijicon night sights. My 22 RTF has Ameriglo for competition use.
If you shoot a 9mm, .40 or .45 semi-auto, you owe it to yourself to get a Maglula.

PS I don't mind the stock trigger at all. Like DT741 says, don't mod anything, esp the internals, until you've shot the gun lots.

Don't change a thing 'till you've run a couple hundred rds. through it. You may like it just fine the way it is. I know I do, even the trigger and sights.

I did also throw a magwell on my 34. I wouldn't on a 17 if I intended to use it for shooting sports, but for IPSC the 34 has to shoot "Standard" where fiber optic sights and magwells are good to go. Regarding the trigger I have no interest in changing anything on it unless something falls into my lap for a song. The 34 trigger pull is advertised at 4.5lbs and it's hard to argue. The only striker trigger that's felt better has been the PPQ. If you ever decided to switch up either of your sight sets look at the Wilson Combat/Vickers sights. You won't be disappointed.

Saw your post on the other thread re:pPQ trigger. Yup! I've shot Phat Eagle's gun and the Q has probably the nicest pull and shortest reset of any polymer I've tried. Better than the VP9 that I tried and both my Glocks.
I keep forgetting the G34 has an improved trigger, having never tried or even seen one here!
I still have a lot of life left in the tritium of my Trijicons but will keep the Wilson Combats in mind, thanks rkm!

I installed the Zev Race Connecter and Competition Spring kit in my 17 this weekend...Wow...difference between it and stock was unbelievable. Tested at 3.25lbs with my pull gauge and the cleanest break I've ever felt on a striker gun. Shot like a dream.

I will get my buddy and his PPQ out next weekend for a side by side...He also swears by the Walther so I am very interested in how the Zev/Glock combo stacks up.

A gun that you buy and start to improve with aftermarket parts is probably not that good to start with ;)

I own a PPQ M2 Navy. The stock trigger is quite good. Looking forward to comparing, once I get the Glock too.

PPQ is a single action striker fired gun, it had better have a nice trigger. The G34 has a stock 3.5 lbs trigger from Glock, nothing special.

If you can't shoot a stock Glock you simply can't shoot. Triggers and aftermarket junk are nothing but mechanical crutches..

Congrats! My current one is still stock. just shoot it and enjoy

Shoot it stock except for sights but then again sights don't change the mechanics of the gun.

A gun that you buy and start to improve with aftermarket parts is probably not that good to start with ;)
Again, if you're modding any gun it's because you can't shoot and are looking for a mechanical crutch.

Extra mags, maybe sights. That's all. Don't mess with the internals. Glocks are unforgiving to poor fundamentals. There's nothing wrong with the gun.

Ooh, I feel such shame...LOL...Some anonymous guy on the internet said I am doing it wrong...

Congrats on the new purchase. I love my Glock 17 Gen 4. As said above, Grip tape, a better trigger, and different sights are the usual "go to" when tricking out a Glock. I got used to mine the way it comes straight from the factory and prefer it that way. Go and buy an UpLULA speed loader, youll thank yourself a million times over. While you are there, get some extra mags and you are all set.

*Edit* I also prefer the factory sights...
