It embarrassing, but this after wing shooting him at the crack of dawn as he flew off the pond, this teflon goose took about 8 shots of 3" high velocity steel with me and my partner chasing him around in a leaky row boat like Elmer Fudds. My first time hunting, so I was still proud. Made a great lunch!

A team effort, no idea which one of us should take credit for the kill so we both will.

Forgot to add after inspecting him, there were tons of holes in his wings, one in his neck (that's what finished him) and NONE in his breast. So the eating was nice and I didn't choke on a pellet.

I've chased some of those little bastards across entire fields trying to get into shotgun range to finish 'em off lol. Having to chase the buggers is nothing to be embarrassed about, losing one either so long as you do your best to find it. When on water you gotta watch 'em because they will duck their heads down and head for the weeds ... tough finding 'em then in some cases.

What size shells were you using? Try BBB or BB if you're using something smaller right now ... they tend not to go too far once you pelt 'em with a good shot of BB HV. Best I've found for me is the cheap Winchester HV steel loads. Knocks 'em stone dead ... the expensive shells I can't seem to get good kills with. Price don't matter when it comes down to it, use what works best for you and for your gun, better for the goose that way.

Congrats on your first oiseau. :)

Congratulations! That would have been fun to watch when I think of it!:D
When it comes to shooting anything, putting the shot or bullet where it counts is number one!
It doesn't matter if you are shooting a 10 gauge, if you don't hit them properly, they are not going to die!

Ha ha ha, great story & even better that you recovered the bird! Congrats!

As for requiring 8 shots to finish him... I remember when steel first became mandatory, ugh, THAT took some getting used to! Dang wounded ducks are REALLY REALLY hard to kill when they are head down & motoring away in the water!

Cheers
