First gopher

I had one of my son's out on Friady he's just turned 10, he got a few though mostly he just scared the crap out of them, I need to tweak, my old 22(served me well for 20+ years finally replaced it this year) to fit him better .

At one point he is poping away at something he tells me it is a white gopher when I see it I tell him to leave it alone its a weasle, and in the context of a field full of gophers a weasle is a good guy. And we were not in the field to kill everything we see just the gophers.

I went though the better part of 200 mini-mags so maybe 75-100 actual, so a slow day but not bad for this time of year.

OK I live in the PC correct GTA area and I don't think we have gophers here in Ont you guys are lucky would love to give it a try:cool:

I've nailed more than a dozen today in the paddock, just walking through. Another muskrat yesterday too. I just 'go for a walk' and pop em as I see them, as I'm only using my Springfield M6, don't have the specialized rigs out. Longest shots only been maybe 60 yards.

But man are Velocitors destructive! Notta one has made it back down the hole, versus literally ever one with the subsonic Moderators.

How do the Velocitors compare to the Mini Mags? Just wondering if I should buy a brick of them when I run out or continue with the Mini Mags.

Far superior in my experience. I shoot with them past 200 yards in my heavy gun, and last year I shot 2.27" for 5 rounds at 200 with them out of my Kimber SVT.

They run just around or over 1400fps, and have a wicked bullet that expands textbook mushroom style and does a fair bit of damage. Only bullet that comes close and sometimes better (but not in my experience) out of .22LR is the Winchester Power Point, but it is much less accurate and slower.

Velocitors really smack down the gophers and leave large wounds and are one of the most accurate .22 cartridges for me.

Cheers!

velocitors are great for one shot stops on the fur balls. They are quite pricey compared to others. You won't be disappointed with their performance. Ardent7, maybe its just me but have you noticed an increase in muzzle report with the velocitors?! There's no way you're gonna mistake these for the Walmart value pack stuff.

I shot a few of them that were given to me and they were quite loud I thought. But that is a good thing.

They do seem louder, but only on the range or in hilly country when the report comes back to me. I'm hunting at the farm in southern AB now and when I shoot here they aren't much louder than even subsonics to me, simply because of the open country. I imagine downrange they'd be a bit louder. They certainly have a wee bit more blast when you're shooting straight down, like a finishing shot, and the sound reflects back to you off the ground. Overall though I'm used to varminting with a long range .243, so any rimfire is a welcome respite from muffs and dust clouds! Kinda gone back to the basics this trip, and all I'm using is my Springfield M6 Scout Rifle with irons, and I have to say I'm enjoying this cheap little gun, brings things down to a simple, enjoyable level.
