First gopher

I wanna see what my yote rig would do to a gopher.
7mm-08 with 100gr sierra varminters.
Will let you know as soon as the snow melts

Yeah, I've gotta learn proper gopher eliminating protocol. Anyone in the Lethbridge area willing to teach a newbie?
Find them and shoot them. That's all there is to it. Go for a drive and talk to some farmers. Be polite and emphasize they you consider safety #1 and will not shoot around other animals and definetly not towards buildings etc. They are generally very receptive to decent folk who act in the described manner.

Shot my first 100 on Sunday... I'm aiming for around 2-300 this next Saturday!

It's pretty crazy. I live well inside the city limits, and it's only 18km to the place I shoot. 640 acres of pure joy! And close to home to boot!

Don't all of you want to get some dramatic action with say.... a .223 ? That's what I bring, but I'm spoiled with earthpigs here in Central Ontario.

Next time I head out west to Calgary (2007) I'm bringing both my CZ452 Varmint and the .223 M700 BDL.

In the meantime while I'm waiting for the snow to melt, I hand out here:

Yeeeeeha....

Heading down to southern sask for the easter long weekend, all the snow is gone and they are overrunning the farm already....can't wait and neither can my ruger...

Just got back from the field, with a count of 37 confirmed kills including one muskrat. Confirmed kills means actual bodies found and probably another 15 unaccounted for. I have officially popped by 2006 cherry....

Went out again today to a buddy's relatives area. Not many to be seen as the grass was long, and these gophers were way more shy than others. They wouldn't show up closer than 100m if you were around. Had 25 confirmed kills.

Still searching for the ultimate field.

Ahh, gophers. :D I was out yesterday at a regular gopher haunt (first visit this season). Despite the wind and overcast, we managed to stay busy for about three hours (and covered less than 10% of the farmer's pasture :) ).

I'm trying the Hornady SPSX 50 grain bullets in front of a near-max load of BLC-2 in a .223. It's quite devastating ("blows them up real good") and bucks the wind not too badly. The longest confirmed hit was lazered at 252 yards with a fairly stiff cross wind. It took four shots to whack that little varmint, but the hit (he got good "air") was very satisfying.
