First Grizzly tag ever!

Big Congratz on the Grizzly Tag I can only dream about grizzly hunting. Maybe some day in Alberta we will be able to hunt Grizzly again.

Thats good... Thanks, I'm not a hunter, but just don't see much point in feeding a bear for a month then shooting it... But actively hunting a Grizzly would probably be quite the rush..

its not really that different than sitting over a patch of blueberries or some marmot dens and waiting for a bear, which is legal in bc. food is food.

where is your draw GH?

grizzleys are far from endangered. well around here anyways. but they are limited entry to keep them that way. im sure if they were open season they would get wiped out in a few years

Probably quite a bit of walking. I won't be able to climb too much wiht my injured knee. But you know this already, @$$hole:D

well hopefully your body allows you to hunt 100% on this hunt of a lifetime! :) It sure would suck to have a major letdown on two 'hunt of a lifetime' hunts in one lifetime!

Congrats, hunting the big bears is a hoot! How long is the season and when does it start?

We can't bait black bear in any zone where grizz are present here in AB.

April 1-June 10. I wil probably try for a mid/late May trip

Interesting...that would be most of BC...

What is the reasoning behind that? Prevent "defense" killings of grizzlies?

Yeah I think that would be the reason why not to bait around the G bear also I think the Govt thinks we're too dumb to know the difference betwen the bears.
Around here the best G bear hunting is always early, if you can get lucky and have a late spring with snow in the season things really look up for success rate.

Quesnel Highlands:)

Congratulations on the draw Clarke. :)

A few bits of advice:

Don't come up too early. That draw is a good one but quite often the bears are still denned up at the end of May. You should PM Drache who lives up there and have him keep an eye out on the rate of snow melt in the valleys for you. Also, quite often the southern slopes may be bare but the roads will still be buried in 4 or more feet of snow. It is a ##### to be able to glass feeding bears a mile away but have no way of getting to them. (ask me how I know about that! :( )

Second, realize they will not be as big as the coastal bears you are used to. A boar you would pass on at the coast may well be the biggest bear you will see here. Also, Bring a black bear tag. The largest bears you see may well be blacks not grizz. 7+ foot blacks are fairly normal with skulls that will break 20".

Finally, If you are so hard up for rifles that you are planning on using that Ruger thingamagig of yours I have a perfectly good '06 I can lend you. ;)

PS, our Paramedic friend used to guide up in that country. Ask him about locations to start hunting at.
