First Grizzly tag ever!

Not to attack you or anything...

But we all know your a good shot, and being that you are using a .375 Ruger which packs more punch than a 375 H&H this part about the Bear fighting back is a little funny.

The Bear has NO chance at all...unless you miss....and if he is close enough not to allow a follow up shot.

Good Luck!

We all hope for a clean, quick killing shot that puts an animal down and out on the spot. But things have been known to get out of control from time to time;)

and your also assuming that the hunter (the human one) sees the other hunter (the furry one) first

Sure you can kill a grizzly bear from 75 yards away with a rifle. Unfortunately you seem focused only on the actual shooting of the animal. The hunt is much more than the shooting.

Not to mention that when you shoot at a grizzly, you are picking a fight with an animal that is capable of killing you if something goes wrong.

Hunting dangerous game can be as safe or as exciting as you wish to make it. Shooting a bear from 100 yards is relatively safe, provided your shot is well placed. All that interferes with that is a target that is inclined to move, fickle mountain winds, and adrenalin. But if that bear is wounded and gets into thick cover, you will have all the adventure you can handle. You know you are having an adventure when you wish you were somewhere else.

But stalking a bear, any bear, into thick cover to start with will ensure you earn your trophy. It doesn't matter what kind of rifle you carry, it will feel like a pea-shooter. Should hunting be done on horse back, a grizzly suddenly standing up in an alpine meadow could make quite the train wreck as well.

Bears have marvelous camoflauge. My experience is with polar bears not grizzlies, but when you see a bear it is not always at a comfortable distance. Here are a few examples of bears in my neighborhood that could have been walked up on by accident . . .

Congrats on the draw Gatehouse.I am going to be putting in for a fall draw this year in 7-42.We will be flying in then a pack horse ride to camp.Really looking forward to it.
Good Luck to you.

Here's a really crazy thought. How about from now on when someone wants to stir crap start your own thread on the topic instead of bursting someone else's bubble. If what the hunter is doing is legal by all means let him have at er.

If in fact it is not legal then it should be brought to light then and then to either steer him straight or let the CO's take care of it.

It is a well known fact Gatehouse is a model citizen. I personally have seen pictures of him helping not one drunk lady but up to five find their way home. They could have fallen into that swimming pool or gosh knows what had he not laid down on the walk in front of them to deter a horrific accident. With all his heroic efforts going on the least we can do is cheer him on when he scores on a bear tag. After all that is likely how he got the bad knee, saving damsels in distress.

And the choir all said 'AMEN'....:)

I'm jealous, I got NIL. Maybe next year, or the year after that, or the year after that,........Get a good one Gate and enjoy the hunt, and always back check your trail when Grizly hunting.

IN principle, I agree with you. However, it is fun to ridicule someone that spouts off about a topic with no knowledge.:D

I love it when the anti's start spewing their crap... :D

Bet you have never gone hunting or even fired a firearm let alone touch one and you probably vote Lieberal...

I've been applying for grizzly tags for years. Never got one...

I've hunted grizzlies a couple of times with buddies that had tags, but this will be the first time for me with a tag in the pocket.:)

Can't wait to get the Mighty .375 Ruger back from Guntech, so I can start load development for 270gr TSX bullets.;)

r u going alone? :D

I took my Alaskan Brown Bear at 25 yards.

WHAT A FRIGGEN RUSH!!!
The stalk was amazing. We crawled through bear dens, I had fresh 1/2 eaten salmon 6" from my nose while belly crawling, We had bears growling and snapping while we walked out in the dark with 2 rifles and a hand gun drawn.

I finished a bottle of of port once I was done and back on the boat.
It took my 2 twrips and 15 days to get it done and was fortunate enough to be on MANY MANY stalks that just didnt work.
I just posted my stories. Its a long read.. But I hope you enjoy it
Good luck to you!
