First gun, 597 or 10/22?

Ive had a few rimfires before buying my 10-22. I wish i would have bought it first and saved myself the hassle. Also a friend of mine started with the 597 even after me telling him to get the ruger. Now after selling his remington
he has a 10-22. Get the ruger. Really there is nothing wrong with the 597 or better yet marlin 795. One thing with the ruger its ok if you dry fire
and the high capacity mags for plinking are easier to find. It is truly a great rifle.

BTW i may have a blued model for sale in good condition in a few days probably $250 depending on where you are PM me to remind me ok.

Man: Oh I'm sorry, what's this little thing over here? It's so tiny. It's so unimportant looking.
Man's son: Look Dad, they even had to paint it yellow so anyone would pay attention to it. What is it?s

yellow... now red... I haven't seen anybody selling yellow Ruger. You pretty much have to buy mediocre low quality basic 1022 and fix it with yellow stock, descent barrel that doesn't come by itself either and pretty much barrel- mounted scope rail. Thats when you get yourself remote equivalent of my "Yellow Jacket". Of course your yellow Ruger cost you some 200$ more but, lets say you enjoyed hands on familiarization with your rifle and now you can bump your chest saying "I buil it!".

So basically you can go either way. Now go out to a gunshop that stocks them both and handle the factory stock versions and shoulder them and find out which ones fit YOU best.

You may like one over the other due to the factory stock's contours and the way it feels when you shoulder & aim.

Im off to basspro tommorrow to compare the two(again)
from what I remember the peewee herman feel of 10/22 was the draw back last time
a moving, as in at the joints of bouth halves, stock of a 597 was the draw back

but since comparing Savage mode IIF I think I know what Im looking for, and if 10/22 goes for $199 as someone mentioned Im sure it will have an equol opportunity to impress me

Can you give me a rough idea of what sort of group to expect from a bone stock 10/22 at 50 yards vs taking it to the next stage, and what that would cost. Or am I better off buying a CZ452 and calling it a day?

The 10/22 doesn't group, it patterns. The only one I was half-way impressed with was my buddies Stainless target model and it was lucky to be under and inch on a good day at 50yds.

Like most rifles, the 10/22 really needs to be bedded. Once that is done and the barrel free floated AND fed the ammo it likes, mine has no issue hitting shotgun shells at 45yds, golf balls at 100yds. Out to 200yds, clay pigeons are toast.

My ammo is Fed bulk from Wallyland. I have also had success with Blaser.

I have also put in a GM fluted HB. This shoots much better - like 25% better with the same ammo.

If you want to mod, the 10/22 is THE way to go. Enjoying my new 'black' toy. Non restricted and 25/50rds mags. Dirt cheap firepower when compared to an AR.
