First gun for a beginner.

Don't rule out an Ithical 37; they are a very good "Browning BPS" for less money, but they too are starting to go up in price.

For one that takes choke tubes, you will have a hard time finding one and if you do, much more than a BPS. The very best pump gun you can buy however. BPS is a great gun too, but starting out I would get a Mossberg 500, birds won't know the difference and it is available everywhere for a decent price.

Buy the lightest and cheapest gun you can. Load it with the heaviest loads you can get and when your shoulder is hurting the next day after each hunt from trying to fire howitzer rounds through a pea shooter then you may want to think long and hard about the advice you were given here to buy something of better quality with some recoil saving features built in. Just saying...

Some people aren't bothered by a 12 guage recoil. I have a 5lbs single shot I have fired 3"old lead BB shells out of (kick like a mule) and it doesn't bother me. Anything much more than my
243 for a rifle I don't care for, rifle seems alot more of a sharper kick, not a fan.

I hear that all the time. Recoil doesnt bother me. You think it doesn't but your sub-concious knows about it.
