first gun for left handed newbie.

I looked at a used lever .22 today but it more $$ than I was willing to spend. Since I am left handed a lever seemed like a good way to go. I am now thinking of starting with an inexpensive right hand bolt action and could pass that on to my right handed kid when they get their license. I guess just getting started is the key as I have so much to learn , like cleaning, sighting, accuracy, safety....etc.
Savage will be the cheapest LH option but you can find LH actions from Savage, Remington, Browning, Tikka, Ruger, CZ. There’s a couple others that I can’t remember at the moment

Pay no attention to I Don’t Care About You, he’s just got Stockholm syndrome from years of being brow beat by some teacher or nun most likely. As a southpaw there’s nothing more natural than a LH bolt action, I still like rh pump or semi auto guns. Break actions are also an option as long as the it doesn’t have a rh stock or cheek riser.

Since buying a modern LH bolt action I’ll never buy another RH bolt gun unless it’s a milsurp.

Where is the op?

What eye is dominent is the question that needs answering... why are you shooting left handed?

I got my lefty wife a left handed bolt action Savage Mark 2. Inexpensive and it feels natural to her.
As a right handed person, shooting her left handed bolt gun feels perfectly natural to me too so maybe you’ll be just as much at home with a right handed bolt as you supposed. But the lefty version is only about $300 which isn’t too bad.

You basically can’t lose because if you get a lefty you win, and if you get a righty you kid wins.

There is a pretty good reason to have a left handed flintlock. There is next to no reason to have left handed cartridge firearms.

What cost? Just shoot your right handed firearms off the left shoulder. 🤷‍♂️
The lefty flint lock could be real exciting fo a right handed person to use. That hot stream, blasting by mere inches from the nose ........
Well, I am left handed and very left eye dominant, so why not? I have been shooting off my left shoulder for about 65 years or so but I feel like indulging myself in my old age.

Sounds like a target rifle for sure and not ideal for trouncing around in the bush with. Depending on the brand you may be able to find a lighter profile barrel.
It is a Savage 110C so relatively easy to change. Just basically need a barrel and the wrench.

You being a LH person will have no trouble at all adapting to shooting RH rifles as a lefty, but LH bolt actions feel real slick compared to RH in any situation, besides being parked at a table, in my opinion. As was mentioned previously in one of the posts, is cast off/cast on regarding heavy kickers and shotguns. I wouldn't call people stupid, but maybe unaware is the better term when it comes to such things. I had a 458 WM that was RH with noticeable cast and I couldn't sell that thing fast enough...the recoil was brutal.
