First Handgun: 92A1?

I'm trying to decide what to get for a first handgun. Definitely want 9mm. A lot of people are recommending the big three (1911, Glock & 226) and they seem like fine guns but I've always loved the look of the Berettas. Are there any major reasons not to get a 92A1 as a first gun?
 
My first handgun was an Italian 92a1 and it has been flawless and I still love it to this day. This was a few years ago now. Nothing wrong with a glock or p266 you will end up with them all eventually as you get the pistol addiction
 
well i had the same itch ended up getting the norc 226 copy and love it

but ever since lethal weapon and die hard had to have a beretta and it is my favorite hands down
 
If you like the look of the gun in Lethal Weapon or Die Hard, order the M9 with straight dustcover. New 92's have the slanted dustcover as Beretta starting using same frame for 9mm and .40.

I prefer straight dustcover.

92A1 and M9A3 have the rail there which make them straight though in a different way. I was eyeing the 92FS just because it's stainless. If they made a stainless 92A1 I'd go for that.
 
They are great guns. I just acquired a Grisan Compact which has an identical frame to the 92 with a slightly shorter barrel. Great gun. Guys who have both the beretta and the Grsan say there is little or no difference in quality. Just a couple of hundred dollars less than the Beretta. Nothing wrong with the Beretta though for sure. The SIG 226 is also a very good pistol, I have the Mke 25 and it is simply a very good gun.

Try them all and decide on which one you like. It all comes down to your personal preference. Sig 226, CZ 75/85/SP-01, Beretta 92's/ They are all good guns and none give anything a way to the other. Pick one you like and shoot the heck out of it.

Me too, so I went with 3 Vertec models plus a 90-two with thin grip.

I've owned a 92FS forever. It's a nice range gun but, IMO, not ideal for most competition shooting, in stock form. The front sight is not replaceable ( I know the newer models are), the grip is beefy, the DA pull is heavy unless you replace the springs and the slide mounted safety is a pain if you tap/ rack. I don't shoot mine much and keep it around to teach new shooters about the different actions of handguns.
If I were to name just one issue with the Beretta, it's the slide mounted safety. I can work around the rest.
