First Handgun and Training Advice?

I'm with One Lunger. The cost of the gun will quickly pale in comparison to the amount of ammo you shoot.

You'll also want to go through the striker vs hammer fired choice. And that's impossible to do until you actually try out a few. Or to at LEAST hold a few in the stores.

But if you've got buck fever badly then at least jump onto one of the more popular guns so if you find that you picked wrong that you can re-sell it easily.

Finally it's tough to evaluate a gun in a store well if you still are not sure of how to hold it correctly With that in mind get on You Tube and search for "travis haley handgun grip". He covers this really well with special emphasis placed on the support hand's cant to get the hand up nice and high.

As a new shooter, I recently went through the same process.

I chose a GSG1911-22 and a 1911.

I had also considered the Sig226 and 226classic22, but decided it would be too expensive. Plus, apparently the slide does not lock back on the last round in the 226classic22.
A close runner up was the M&P22 and M&P9, but I decided I prefer the steel versus the plastic.

My GSG ran quite well out of the box, and is tonnes of fun. The 1911 in .45 is expensive to run.
Of course, I've got the bug now - and am using the expensive .45 ammo as a way to self-justify my need to buy a 9mm.

So currently I'm debating a new purchase of a cz75sp01 shadow or a glock17.
