It's finally here! It looks pretty good aside from some rust spots on the slide and the trigger bar, and some wear on the barrel. The grips just have minor scratches and feels nice! I'm planning on getting a new set of grips in the future though

Didn't come with a magazine sadly, but I bought 4 magazines.

After field stripping and giving the gun a wipedown with a microfibre cloth, some of the rust stains came off and I'm left with these spots. What would be the best way to get them out?

Beyond that, I don't really know what to check exactly but the trigger feels nice and I'm surprised at how crisp the break is in single action...I was honestly expecting something a bit on the mushy side since it's a bit on the older side.

Wear on the barrel (the inside looks nice too--couldn't take a decent pic)

Do you guys think I just need to strip it, wipe down whatever oil and grease is on the gun, clean and re-oil? (Maybe warm water/soap cleaning and drying?)

I'm open to any and all suggestions on making sure this gets taken care of and stays beautiful as long as possible! :d

I'd definitely start with removing all of the oil grease and oil and applying new stuff. Regarding rust spots - doesn't seem to be that deep, but would need some work(especially trigger bar, unless it's just photo adjusting color - I've always had a bit of a problem with small detail rust).

Yeah, I'll give it some basic cleaning/rust removal and new oil stuff for the time being...I guess I won't know how well it performs til I get out on the range but I gotta wait for the authorization to transport to come in too lol

0000 steel/ brass wool and clp, rub gently on the rusted area and it'll come off. If not, the slide is blued and the receiver is anodized, you can always send it to gun refinishers for a redone.

Nice pistol! You can de-grease and steam bathe those parts, it'll further oxidize the rust making it black and benign. I would just hang them off snare wire in a closed pot with a bit of water, called rust bluing I believe

Cheers,
Jake

Thanks everyone! I picked up some CLP and 0000 steel wool and I'll be spending tomorrow taking this apart and doing some maintenance!
I'm looking forward to taking this to the range too...my ATT can't get here fast enough...

The BC CFO said it'll take about 2 weeks to arrive lol

That's something I'm considering maybe down the line!
Also an update on cleaning--it didn't get rid of it completely but the rust spots look less noticeable now. I might've been going at it with the steel wool too lightly

The slide also bit my finger because I didn't hit the slide catch high enough and it slammed back lol
It's tasted my blood so that means it's bound to me now right? Is that how it works?

Bound by blood... I like it!
One crucial element of care that has not been mentioned is diet. It must be fed 124gr regularly. Or 115gr, or what ever other flavour it prefers but a steady diet of 9mm will keep it, and you happy.

Hurts don't it? I can sympathize. On first cleaning my brand new SR1911, I rammed my thumb hard into the feed ramp on the disassembled barrel. I swear the tip of my thumb was chambered and the pad of the thumb was hanging, lacerated like a flap outside. Sharp as all hell, bled like a son-of-a. The gun has never given me so much as a hiccup of a problem since. Sometimes, a common understanding just needs to be established with these things?

Sounds like that 1911 asserted its dominance.

Ohh yeah! I've been meaning to look into different kind of rounds
Picked up 124gr and 147gr, 100 rounds each and I'll try to figure out what's best.

On the whole though, does it really matter which kind is best or each gun has its own favourite so I shouldn't buy 1000rds of something in case the gun doesn't like it?

Also on that note--Federal, Hornady, CCI, Remington, etc etc--do the brands matter or can I just keep thinking "I pull trigger, it goes boom" then buy whatever's cheap?

Yikes, that sounds rough
I was lucky it was just the skin of my index finger that got caught between the barrel and the slide. It bled, hurt like hell but it's already healing lol

Hopefully this little guy won't bite me again haha

Most likely it will eat anything you feed it. You are going to get the most bang for you buck with 115 price wise as the heavier stuff usually costs more. In terms of brand, honestly, its not something I really care too much about. I buy what ever is the cheapest as none of my pistols are too picky about what they eat. The only gun that is a little finicky is my FX9 with aluminum cased ammo.
Just feed the beast!

Sounds good! Gonna go pick up some 1000 rd sets for Black Friday and play around haha

Haven't really shopped around much but the Federal 147gr and the CCI 124gr were both exactly the same price when I bought em at Cabelas thinking I could see what ammo fits. If it doesn't really matter on the whole scheme of things, I'll just buy the cheapest!

I like mine a lot. Only had it at the range once but it seemed good. I put thinner grips on and plan to put a lighter spring in to improve the trigger. I have dry fired at Hans Grubber like I’m an 11 year old. Anyone that has one coming congrats, your likely going to be happy.
