What should my first handgun for range shooting be. Ive never shot a gun before but plan on starting to be a frequent user. Any advice would be great. Should I buy new or used as well. Thank you very much

Go to local indoor range. Try what they have. Like whichever one. Research it. Buy it. Apply for ltatt. Wait. Receive ltatt. Apply for statt. Pick up. Enjoy.

For inexpensive shooting and ease of handling, the .22 in either a semi-auto or revolver, is often recommened.
If you don't have the luxury of being able to try out several makes and models,
the ole standby Ruger MK I,II or III is always a good choice.
Lots of info here, and on the 'net about handguns for starters.

For me it all depends on your likes. If you're in Alberta or BC, you can go to ranges, put down some entry fee and they'll let you use theirs.

I'd start with some .22s then move on to G17, CZ75 and then to heaviers with .45ACP or rather 50 Cal S&W 500 or D-EAGLE. Try on some different calibers to see which one you enjoy shooting the most.

Again, it depends on your taste and what you like in your hands. .22s are more precision pistols, larger the caliber, more the recoil.

For me, 22 is like a fart gun, so I prefer 9mm , 50CAL good for a few shots, but don't need sore arms.

Just based on my stupid experience, dont take em for a fact.

Whatever tickles your fancy! It'd be great if you can try some first, but the Ruger above (Buckmark I believe, 22LR) is a beautiful gun not just for starters but to keep for a LONG time. GSG, Colt and Chippawa make .22 caliber 1911 guns, you can read reviews on those.

Are you into semis or wheelguns?

Hey Noltz. I am into semis. I was thinking about the walther P.22. What do you think? Sould I buy new or used or does it not matter. Thank you to everyone for your response.
