First Handgun Input is appreciated

Buy a sig P226 in 9mm and the 22LR conversion kit for it.
Then you have the best of both worlds, and a quality pistol that will never let you down.

I have that setup and it's awesome BUT...
The Ruger Mark III makes for a superior .22LR than the P226 with the .22LR kit.

Get a Glock in 9mm - then you won't blow $8K on handguns that get in the way of you shooting as well as you can, and you won't outgrow it. An M&P (any flavour) is another option for the same reason.

I am looking at buying a handgun in the near future, I currently own a few rifles etc but this will be my first pistol. I really love the stainless 1911's and also the H&K .45 USP. Just wondering what you guys think is better, or if you have any other options you think would be worthy I would take those into consideration. Im sure you get asked this all the time so sorry for the redundance.

Get what you want. If you insist on .45ACP then get a 1911. Its the most forgving of all platforms as it conceals you trigger issues. Some are cheap now too, Ruger SR1911 and Remington R1 come to mind.

I'm of a different mindset than most here. I say if its a 1911 or a HK you want then that's what you should get, both if you can. There will always be time later to get a .22 for cheap shooting but your first one should be something you really like to keep you interested. As dumb as it sounds, when I got my first I knew I would be taking friends shooting and I wanted to show off something nice, it just wouldn't be the same to bust out the little .22 at the range when you're with your non shooter buddies. I would find a shop relatively close to you that stocks the HK and a selection of 1911s and buy the one that feels best and go have fun. That's what it's all about after all, if you plan on being an Olympic pistol shooter by this time next year than that might not be the best plan but somehow I doubt that's your goal.

If your Left Handed (or not) I suggest the M&P series.... I have the 9mm and just bought the .22lr version of the M&P. This way it's the same ergo's as the 9 and you can shoot all day without breaking the bank. Buy reliable and less expensive at first. Then buy your collector BLING pistols.

I bought a Sig Sauer P226 in 22LR as my first handgun. Sent over 1,000 rounds down range in a couple of months. I then purchased the 9mm x-change kit. I'm still in for under $1,000 and now have 2 calibers.

Hi guys,
I am debating also on the same subject: my first handgun.
I am really into 1911, and I am very indecisive should i get GSG 1911 .22 or some other quality 1911 .45 and a conversion kit for .22.
I would like to have .45 just so I do not have to spend extra money one day when I want to shoot bigger caliber on buying another 1911.
I went to a lot of stores and tried every 1911 that I saw, some fit nice, some not that good.
I appreciate any suggestions and hope that I am not highjacking this thread but contribute to choices,
Thank you.

My first was a 9mm, SR9. Great. Love it, the best money Ive ever spent. The gun is super easy to take down, great to shoot, and always gets attention at the range! $500 well spent.

My opinion is different from most... buy what you like. If you wanna blow 2000bucks on a wilson combat 1911 on your first gun then do it... you worked for it. Now enjoy it... then when your low on funds and can afford to buy ammo buy a sweet 22. Because you will end up putting more of them down the range then the more expensive rounds... my first handgun was a colt 45 and i wouldnt have wanted it any other way

Just my. .02cents
