First Handgun - Like a "Honda"

He commented poorly on the Beretta 92 due to it's weight and ability to jam frequently
The gun is just 35oz and IMO you won't find a gun more reliable. I've owned good number a of guns over the years and yet to find one that will match 92fs in reliability department! Sig I used to have was no where close actually. Sounds like guy is full of s**t.

He puts a lot of effort into helping the gun community, speaks as if he were properly educated, and has a lot of videos to prove his shooting ability and experience. Check him out

my experience with a Beretta 92 (actually Taurus equivalent) only showed it to jam when the magazine lips were out of whack cuz it would stovepipe a fresh (unfired) round as it was starting to pull it out of the mag. lips were loose so the round popped up on its own and pointed at the sky. otherwise, it's actually been pretty f'n reliable. weight is ok too.

though i haven't seen his review of the beretta. got a link to it?

I really don't see the Beretta as being un-reliable. The US military trials actually see to it that it is not true.

Maybe nunfancy has a bit of a bias against them?

My Beretta M9 ran like a top. I sold it but will probably own another in the future.

I'm at work so can't watch it now, but I'd question anyone's knowlege and experience who'd say Berettas are unreliable. It's just plain not true. I have thousands of rounds thru mine; mostly reloads with different powders and bullets and it's always been 100% where EVERY other gun I owned been at least somewhat finicky about ammo (be it OAL, bullet profile etc) or the way you hold it... I trust my experience more than some gun on the internet. That's all I can say. :)

Stop worrying about the opinions of people on the internet and get out there and buy a gun, start shooting it and form your own opinions! ;)

But unfortunately you are asking for two different guns. On one hand you wnat a pretty gun that's shiny, accurate and reliable (an expensive gun). And on the other hand, you want one that is cheap, accurate and reliable. Sadly, you can't have it all. Like everything, you generally get what you pay for when you buy a gun....

Want a gun that is relatively cheap but still accurate and uber-reliable? Well then you are looking for a Glock or a S&W M&P.... Cheap, super reliable and as accurate as you will ever need. But not pretty. Not unless you subscribe to the "form follows function" school of thought, in which case the Glock is an absolute thing of beauty.

If you want a good looking gun: maybe with a metal frame instead of polymer, and possibly in Stainless; that is still reliable and accurate... well, you will have to spend more than you would for the plain looking polymer gun with the same characteristics.... A lot more in some cases.

Glocks and M&Ps can be found in the $600 - $700 range new, and even less used. a Sig will, generally, run you at least twice that amount in stainless; a bit less for one with a black Nitron finish. An all metal gun just cost more to manufacture and finish, unfortunately.

If you do happen to find a pretty looking fun in a budget price range, you really need to take a close look at the overall quality of the gun and the reputation of the manufacturer. Chances are you are getting what you pay for... The paraphrase an old adage, "An inexpensive gun, a quality gun, a pretty gun; Pick any two, but id you want all three it's gonna cost you! :)

But good luck making your choice. Your first pistol is a very tough decision. But the good news is that you will spend far less time and energy when you buy the rest of your guns! After the first one, the rest come pretty easy!

I realize now that the all stainless/shiny gun I want is going to cost more, so therefore I've reverted to the basics and want to get the most affordable gun that is still attractive and all metal.

I do not like the look of a glock, nothing excites me about owning it even if it shoots excellent, plus it's polymer plastic case is less than attractive to me.

Sig P226 is a looker, the Beretta M92 is also a looker, the Springfield XD has Croatian heritage (always nice to supprt ones own), and the M&P seems popular (is it all metal?)

Sorry to be a newb, but whats EE?

EE is equipment exchange. Go to your cp and ask for permission for allowance. lots of good deals there.

From what you are saying, I think a CZ 75/85 would suit your needs. I highly recommend them.

Yeah I have a CZ 75 stainless - nice looking gun! but I had to adjust my loads for to even chamber a round. Now that I did it it has been 100%. I like shooting that gun a lot.

P226 stainless, had one, quality was nice but was finicky about ammo and I didn't see why it was double the price of the M&P

M&P9 I had one too. Very nice gun too, should've kept it, it's what Glocks wants to be ;) Reliable, but didn't take long for a newb girl to made it jam...

92FS Inox is just $900! ###y, fairly affordable and super reliable -how can you go wrong with that!?

Danimal, what town do you live in? I ask because so much of all this first gun jitters would go away if you could spend some time at one of the Rent-A-Gun ranges that are located in many of the major cities.

I am not far off Toronto, on the East side.

I went to Target Action Sports the other day for their open house, was able to shoot 4 different guns - the problem is that I loved them all :D

I think the Beretta is the best looking gun of the bunch, the Inox is KILLER but it doesn't quite look polished, just silver?

now you're just being picky :p

ps: I think Taurus stainless version is polished IIRC

and you get even get a pimped version with gold controls and either wood or fake pearl grips.

nice thing about the Taurus over the Beretta though is that the safety-decocker is a 3-way (safe, fire, or decocked) and not a 2-way (fire, decocked+safe)

Are Taurus guns reliable? I keep reading conflicting opinions online, should I or should I not purchase one as my first gun? I don't see myself purchasing another for some time since the money is better spent at the range and for memberships/etc.

The price range is incredible, they look better than the Beretta to me since they come in polished stainless

And every time you pick up the gun and found fingerprints all over the place and try to wipe them off, you won't love them much. grease mark, oil mark make the gun looks dirty and cheap. The Beretta inox on the other hand won't show fingerprint and looks much refine.
