First handgun. Looking at a glock. Unfamiliar

Springfield Armory XDM 9mm 4.5" 3-Dot Black with Range Kit

Give this a look, has everything you need in one package. It's a sweet shooter. Of all the glocks out there, the XDM is the best of them hands down.

i would consider a used shadow 1 which can be had for around $800 or shadow 2 for $1000. best bang for you buck and this is coming from a guy who own multiple glocks. glock is nice but the plastic frame and hard trigger make the gun bouncy. You also almost always jerk the trigger. Somthing i didn't have after trying a shadow.

CZ Shadow, either version 1 or 2. I owned the CZ P10F and found it too light. Sold it and bought the CZ SP-01 Shadow and love it, trigger is amazing and the pistol truly needs no upgrades done to it.......

Glocks are an acquired taste, especially if you wear medium gloves. The double stack grips have a pretty sharp radius on the corners, and if the bendy parts of your hands don’t line up well then you might find it uncomfortable. Most other manufacturers have figured this out and newer designs have very rounded grips to soften this issue.

The G48 is the exception, and if you have less than large hands then it’s a winner in most respects.

The triggers range anywhere from adequate to terrible. You can play with triggers and bars and stuff but there’s only so much you can do with them.

Cz75b .40 cal was my first pistol, is actually still my go to, the p226 legion is nice, hard to get use to sight sight picture but once you do it’s nice to shoot, fits me well. I find I like the heavy pistols. Kimber 1911 in .45 is very accurate and fun to shoot but I find the slide release hard to reach for on that frame. M&p 9 and 22 are ok but plastic, Have never fondeled a glock. You really have to buy a bunch to find what you really like. My wife just does not understand that. The shadow 2 I rented at the range was a very nice shooter.
Like others have said the heavier is easier to shoot well.

got a p226 .40 police tradein down in the states--well used but shot good.
traded it in for an M&P spec series 9mm.
