I'm getting ready to buy my first handgun, being a southpaw I've got it narrowed down to three guns. They are the S&W m&p9, CZ85 or the Walther ppq. All three are ambidextrous friendly, withing my price range of $1000. All are 9mm's and fit my hand comfortably.

Can anyone give me some feedback on these guns? I'm going to hit DVC Ventures and hopefully fire them all, which should help make the decision easier. I'm new to pistols so I'm really just looking for something that will be easy to learn to shoot with in terms of recoil, trigger pull and reset. The CZ felt the best in my hand so it's in the forefront at the moment, some pros and cons from owners of these guns would be very helpful.

I'm biased because I own multiple M&Ps, but I own them for a reason. They shoot great for me, and have had no issues of any significance. Reliable, even after thousands and thousands and thousands of rounds.

Yeah, I was just looking at the cz combat online. Adjustable sights etc sound like a nice extra, hopefully I'll get to shoot them all at the range. There was a beretta I was checking out as well but the first three felt nicer to hold, although the beretta was lighter with an aluminum frame.

I really like the scaled down 1911 look to the cz, as well as the all metal frame.

Also, how often do you want to shoot? Note that is is different than how much do you want to spend on ammunition.

What do you want to use it for?

What is your ammo budget/ month.
Basically just general target shooting for starters, something to learn to pistol shoot correctly with and develop my skill set. I haven't set a specific ammo budget, I'm self employed and busy with work so I can afford to shoot 9mm regularly. I plan to get into reloading to feed my .303 so 9mm will get added in to the equation when I start down that path.

With my workload I'm hoping to get out once a week maybe more depending on free time over the winter, I need to joing an actual range by the new year. That should light a fire under my ass to get out more.

For $1000 you have some awesome choices. That is Everything from a GSG 1911 to some of the lower end kimbers. You can shoot 200 rounds of 45 for the price of 300 9mm. Make sure that you can action all the functions of the fire arm one handed.

I'd stay away from Walthers personally due to the lack of magazines, the fact that they cost ALOT, and that holsters are few and far between. Not to mention little to no support for warranty or parts. Other than that they are like an Aston Martin, beautiful pistols and shoot like a dream. Go cz if your getting into comps, m&p for any courses and just in general great pistols with lots of support and accessories at very reasonable prices.
