So I got my license in the mail earlier this week and am ready to make my first purchase. I don't belong to a club yet, but I'm applying to one the same day I plan on buying the handgun. I know I need a ATT for it but will I be able to call the CFO at the time of the purchase and get a short term ATT where they just fax or email me the paperwork so I can bring it back home just the one time,or does it not work like that and i'll need to call in acouple days before for it?

Depends on what province you live in.

In BC you do not need a LTATT to purchase, the business will usually get you the STATT. But you will need to be a member of a club the same day or prior to the purchase.

What are you planning to buy??

All my handguns took a couple of days. You and the store call in at the time of purchase. Then you get to wait for the fax that allows you to transport the gun from the store to your house. Typically you apply for you transport papers from range to house at the same time. If I remeber correctly both my transport from store to house and transport from house to range came at the same time. A buddy of mine managed to get his home the same day but he did most of the calling and started first thing in the morning. By the way remember to bring locks for the case, they usually have some sort of locking device for the handgun but not for the case.

Oh right forgot, I'm located in Burlington,Ontario. The club I plan to join is Silverdale, and the gun will be a glock 17 or glock 34.

You will need to be a member of a club (I have never heard of anyone checking...hint hint) and count on it taking a few days to get the short term ATT to transport the gun home. No getting a membership, buying a gun and shooting it on the same day in this province.

Good choice to join silverdale. its an excellent club and having a stor right on the property comes in handy big time.

In Ontario the CFO does not demand proof of membership to transfer the pistol. Just state to the CFC/CFO which club you intend to join and in a few days the pistol is legally yours.

im from ottawa and i bought my beretta without a club membership nor did i have to say anything about joining a club. i had my gun for over a month before i joined the RA.

I don't get it.

If you already have your PAL, why would you wait to join the Club that you have decided to join instead of just joining it already?

What does waiting accomplish? Other than creating an unnecessary potential for a problem, I mean.

Was it a consignment? I am just letting you know what I have been told by my dealer who actually operates a range on site. He says he used to allow it but the CFO shut the whole idea down and guns were not allowed to leave the shop unless they were transferred. No point screwin up your business cuz some guy wants a test drive. Good thing is my dealer personally owns alot of guns and the guy who owns the range has even more so they let me try anything they own if I ask.

Maybe not everyone has enough cash. Or maybe someone is busy and has no time to target shoot until later on in the year.

I am grappling with both of these situations now. I have no money and I am getting a job overseas, no reason to buy a membership anymore (at least until later), but I bought a cheap norinco pistol anyways, just to piss of a f**king Liberal.

Stop wasting your time and getting everyones opinions that in the end really amount to nothing. Call silverdale and ask for Seth. Explain what you wanna do and he will get everything started. The second you get your pal call him. Join the club and buy the gun and he can start the transfer and apply for your att from the club all at once. You need that att to be able to do anything with the gun but you have to have a gun registered to you to get it so it takes some time.
